Blood Test Results

Hello,

I recently had blood work completed and just downloaded the results. To put it mildly, I’m freaking out. Most of the results related to the liver are elevated. I would greatly appreciate it anyone out there could take a look and let me know if I should be concerned. See below. Thanks, Brian

-ALT: 57

- AST: 67

- Albumin : 4.5

-Total Bilirubin: 1.7

Hi,

This forum is here to share experiences and provide support to each other and we would advise against posting any test results or asking for specific medical advice.

This is not a medical forum and should not be used to try and make diagnoses or replace advice from your own medical practitioners who have a much wider view of your health and test results.

We appreciate how worried you are and hope you will still post for support and information but it is against the rules of our forum to post test results and to ask for specific medical advice.

You may find The British Liver Trust publication on liver disease tests explained useful to read.

However, it really would be best to discuss your test results with your own doctors who know you best,

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the clarification.

Mild elevations in liver enzymes/bilirubin are quite common. Doctors usually don't get too excited about this unless & until they are double (or more!) the upper normal limits over a series of several labs over time.

Time is on your side for now. Acute viral hepatitis A can push enzymes into the thousands and most of these patients recover without lasting damage. This said, you don't want to go through life with chronically elevated enzymes, so this is something to watch and work on.

Strenuous exercise, pharmaceutical and over the counter medications can bump enzymes briefly high, so you might want to avoid these in the week leading up to your next labs.

Any time labs are out of range, a retest, typically at around 90 days is wise. This to establish if labs are trending higher, lower or are persistently/chronically high.

Hope you get to the bottom of what's going on soon.
