Hi had lfts done in dec ALT 134 and GGT 365... had repeat bloods done yesterday and awaiting the results. I am on Venlafaxine for depression and wondered if anyone has experience with abnormal liver results with this drug?

Hi. I take venlafaxine along with about 15 other medications and have had elevated liver enzymes for a few years. They are getting higher all the time but I do not think it is the venlafaxine as I have been on it for 30 years! I have non-alcoholic steato hepatitis from diabetes and over weight. Having liver biopsy next week.

I have been on Venlafaxine for many years and I also have Insulin dependant type II Diabetes. I was diagnosed by biopsy 16 years ago with NASH like you. My lft’s have been elevated throughout with much higher levels than yours. However, each of us has a different body that responds differently to different drugs and situations. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again......take your whole unique situation to the Specialist you’re allocated (pot luck I’m afraid) and spell out clearly your particular concerns and worries. Write them down clearly and concisely, preferably typed up before you go to the Consultant. Give a copy to the specialist for him to study, discuss with you and then file. Take any individual with you who will actually support you in the process, be it a spouse, partner or friend. I won’t take my beloved husband with me because he just sits and says nothing and agrees with everything the doctor says. Your supportive companion MUST be able to say something if they are alarmed, disappointed, or if they realise you don’t understand something that is said. All liver patients must learn to be proactive in getting information from the doctors because otherwise they will fill up this wonderful site with lots of questions only their doctor can help them with, because of their unique situation. We can support, comfort and give unprofessional advice but only you, the liver patient, can truly get the right answers for you from the right sources xxx
