Hi

I'm in the process of having to lose weight and I had a look at a lot of different nhs uk websites. The information I gathered is that it is a good idea where possible to eat fresh or frozen or tinned in fruit juice fruit where possible. Veg the same, except tinned in water with no salt or sugar added.

A smoothie a day is good for you but from what I can gather you need the fruit and veg in a bulky state to get the real benefit from the roughage side of things.

On the British liver trust they give some information about the benefits of drinking some coffee. I can't do that as coffee gripes my stomach always has. I have decaffeinated tea but I have cut that down as I like it with soya milk. I have started drinking boiled water as well. Not a taste to set your taste bids going but it quenched my thirst.

If you want to watch the calories in a smoothie then cranberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and BlackBerry are good but there is a reason they are low in calories, without sugar they can be very tart. Banana needs to be eaten in moderation but is a lovely addition to a smoothie as it is a natural sweetener. Getting used to lead sweetness has made frozen blueberries taste sweet to me but they didn't to begin with. Carrots are also good for sweeteners as are some pears and apples.

To begin with if you go to some supermarkets they sell frozen mixes of fruit or fruit and veg you can try to find what you like.

Good luck

Is it fruit based or not? So many good things for livers!

Turmeric is brilliant for detoxing and anti-inflammatory stuff, ginger is so good for you and garlic too, and lemon juice...I bet people have loads of ideas!

Celery is great for losing weight too, and I think spinach and kale are good for liver too but I agree about having the fruit and veg in bulk rather than a smoothie - keep you fuller for longer. Same goes for all the fruit based ones too!

As for a non-tea tea, a really yummy one is fresh diced ginger, squeeze of lemon, pinch of turmeric and a teeny bit of honey if you need it, sometimes I add fresh garlic (depends who you're seeing!), then top up with hot water and you're good to go!

Good luck and enjoy it! nom, nom, nom :-)

I sometimes juice green grapes, celery, spinach, green apple, ginger and a squeeze of lime. Could make it into a smoothie too I guess.

Not sure if it will assist with weight loss but it's certainly good for you and tastes delicious! 😋

Since, you're on British Liver Trust. Beets, they restore glutathione, the largest antioxidant found in the liver that helps restore liver damage and fights cancer. Taste nasty, but after you read how good they are for the liver. You won't be able to help but like them. Artichoke as-well has selenium in it, another powerful tool for the liver. Eggs choline, which help the liver fight fatty liver. The chances of obtaining liver disease with low choline levels in the body are a lot higher.

I have frozen mango pieces, pineapple pieces and blueberries topped up with a little water. Throw it all in as is and blitz it in nutri bullet and it somes out like sorbet, i eat it with a spoon 😋, 3 of five a day and delicious. Possibilities are endless but thats my favourite at the min, supermarkets do great frozen fruit and veg for them.

I start the day with this little beauty: Gogi berries, prunes, avocado, pea or cabbage, teaspoon of coconut oil, teaspoon of turmeric, half teaspoon of cinnamon, 3 teaspoons omega seed mix and a pinch of fennel seeds. All in the nutri bullet. Fills me up til lunch. 🤓😊
