Husband has had his transplant

Hi not been on here for a while but this forum was the first one I joined when my husband was diagnosed with cirrhosis due to haemachromotosis. You all gave such good advice and support and I took it all onboard for the day when his call came in

So one year after being listed out of the total blue the phone rang last Thursday evening Saying a suitable match with a non beating heart was available. After a long wait through the night with the surgeons checking the liver he was taken to theatre and six hours later was in ICU. Tomorrow he is to be discharged so he progressing very well and what a miracle. Thanks to the donor the wonderful staff at St JAmes in LEeds my husband is coming home with a lovely new liver.

I wish you all the luck in the world to everyone who is currently on the waiting list. πŸ˜€

I remember your transplant post. Happy to hear you back on the tracks. We never thought he would get the call this year so what a surprise When they rang and no false alarm. This donor was a perfect match for my husband. For ever grateful x πŸ˜€

All sounds great, take it steady, get him out walking, there will be good and bad days, but I know in the last week especially I feel I have really turned a corner.

Wow! This is fantastic news and his recovery sounds amazing to someone like me who doesn't know a lot about transplants, but may have to learn in the future. This must give so many hope and I am so glad that things have worked out so well. Best of luck with whatever lies ahead :)

Yes it's been a whirlwind and getting him home today driving down the m62 in thick fog and rain was fun 😱 X

Fantastic news glad all went well xx

That's great news Katherine I'm happy for you both. There are a few on here who have been through this whole process, for each one of us, it's been a unique journey.

His body is going to take time to recover, but there's going to be a new hurdle to cross and that is emotional aspect of it all. I know from my own feelings at the time, I was overwhelmed with remorse and guilt. Part of you is so happy to be alive, but the other half of you is full of sadness for the donor. I don't mean to over shadow this joyous occasion, but I thought I'd better mention the emotional side of this procedure as it can be a heavy time.

Hi

So pleased for you both. Like everyone has said take it easy now, one step at a time. Please take care. Lots of love Lynne xxxx
