Can you have no symptoms and still have liver damage? And if your liver enzymes were hi but start dropping down does this mean your liver is healing? Thanks

Were your liver enzymes a first indication that something wasn't right? Mine were at 319 and have dropped to 216 in 3 weeks.

I have PSC which is a progressive liver disease. It shows up in blood tests but until late last year to look at me you'd never have know. It was only then as the damage progressed I started displaying symptoms. I'm no doctor but I'd imagine your liver can sustain a certain amount of damage before outwardly showing any symptoms.

How long did it take before you had symptoms and what were they? Thanks 4 the reply.

Well I was diagnosed PSC back in 2003 due to abnormal LFTs. I didn't outwardly show any symptoms until August last year when I very suddenly became jaundiced.

would it show up in a blood test if you had been tested before showing symptoms? HE also asked if your liver enzymes were hi but start dropping down does this mean your liver is healing? Thanks.

Not always. A couple of days off it an lots of water would make Liver look like it's working better. But that only fools 1 person. Go see your Doc and lay it out

I get totally confused with my LFT readings, they are never the same even if I have only left a week span between doctor and hospital. I always thought good LFT meant liver was ok ; but not in the reading of my fibroscan which was 27 and now in f4 stage. I must admit I have felt a slight change in how I feel.. my sleeping is terrible. My liver disease was only picked up when I ballooned up full of fluid and had no desire to eat .. I was told in 2008 only 6 months left to live ; but 9 yrs on I'm still here due to stopping the alcohol and cigarettes and change of diet

im sure stopping alcohol certainly does as i had hep b and hep c and drank for years but stopped for 29 years almost so it must makde a big difference. my liver reading are looking fantastic and i cant understand this at all as im so ill im having facial flushings and going puprple for a few minutes at a time and instead of being cold im on fire im burning up and in pain. i go to the surgeon tomrow thank goodness.my ggt is 29 the only one that is elevated is the alk phos its 133 and that could be to do with my bile duct reconstruction. i cant understand it at all, alt is 29 everything is right on. im puzzled.

Hi Grace, alcohol really does play a big part even if the cause of the disease wasn't even the cause. You have done great!! 29 years well done 😊. I'm the same as you, I look well so people say ; my LFT readings have been ok but my fibrosis is high so the liver is badly scarred .my left hand goes blue, numb, and tingling thats why I had tests done. Have to wait till 25 April to see my dr for results then liver clinic on 9th may for a scan. It may not be your liver that is making you feel this way? Your readings are good ! Hopefully you will get some answers tomorrow. Keep positive.. good luck I'm sure they will find the cause and help you with that awful burning xoxox

quick answer is yes but if enzymes are improving then that's a good sign and yes quite possibly healing

My husband's enzymes were sky high and he was very jaundice with an acute illness. They dropped drastically (almost normal) but the liver was damaged. No symptoms of damage for months and we thought he was healing. He then began symptoms and is now on transplant list. All this in 3 years.

Sorry to hear that; but it's so true how things can change; sometimes within months or weeks. I am.now end stage after 9yrs but I was never under any hospital since last discarded in 2010 .I thank God I stood my ground with my gp to now have a great hepetologist. Good luck and best wishes..
