? For women who have had a transplant...

it's a bit of a strange one for me this, even pre diagnosis of cirrhosis I have always had problems with my menstrual cycle, I could go years without one and with me being diagnosed with polycystic ovaries it made sense. They were definitely non existent once I was diagnosed. Since I had transplant I was spotting first 2 months and since I had regular bleed, but this time it has been full on..... Anyone else had any similar experience?? I am taking it as a good thing as it means my body is working but by God I feel like a bloody teenager at moment haha 😂

Do you mean really heavy? Yes I had this problem although I used to be regular anyway. However my cycles have become short now! Aspirin can also affect the flow. I am a little better since they took me off it because it was that heavy. Sort of out of control.

Seems to be getting heavier yes each month, it's just strange for me to have one every month has never happened lol I think I surprised more than anything. Just wanted to hear other women's experience I have mentioned to consultant but he looked as flummoxed as I felt haha 😂 thanks for the reply :-D x

God, Jojo, a bloody teenager again, really. Does this mean you now have a spotty face, and are moody and argumentative again. (Visions of Kevin and Perry flash through my head). As for your woman's troubles have you ready any of the possible side affects of the medication you are now on? I was also thinking that since you've had your transplant and your bodies been through a lot of banging about, and because of your age, It may be possible that this might be bringing on the menopause early. When I came round after my transplant, everyone was keen to make sure that my bowls had opened. After two days nothing was happening, I did ask why this was so important and I was told that during the opp someone has to hold the bowl out of the way while the surgeon goes to work on the liver. This can cause the bowl to stop working and go to sleep. This is why they want to make sure it wakes up again. In your case maybe something has happened to make your body re-boot it's self and your menstrual cycle has started working correctly.

Just a thought. I could ask if you really expected anything with the word "men" in it to work correctly. Ha Ha.

I don't think I ever stopped being moody and defo argumentative lol

And if it was menopause it would be non existent of a menstrual cycle what would be a perfect answer.

You see with the condition polycystic ovaries it's normal for menstrual cycle to be irregular and I thought doctors would of been interested in the changes I have experienced since transplant especially as polycystic ovaries was one of the reasons I got cirrhosis.

And what you mentioned about bowels after transplant it happens with everyone. We only had ours ten days apart, I hope your recovery is going well :-)

Yes I'm going great, I've been doing some voluntary work of a charity organisation "Lifeline" which help people with alcohol and drug issues. I'm trying to reach out and show these people what is awaiting them if they continue down their alcoholic road in life. Conditions like Varices, Ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy.

I'm now down to returning to the QE Birmingham every three months. I'm lucky, I've had little or no complications.

May I ask please which hospital were you in please?

Brilliant news and I am under Leeds, I had a few problems afterwards but last 6 weeks have been fantastic next appointment I know they planning on changing my medication to get me off steroids, hope it works as I eating like giant haystacks lol

And good luck with the charity work is it people reaching out to the charity who want to stop drinking?

Wow, that's a little strange. We both had our transplants around the same time. Mine was on the evening of the 1st October 2016. I had my steroids stopped on the 6 Jan 2017. (Which I'm glad about as I think I was growing man boobs).

Good luck anyway.

Hi jojo, I'm 18 months post transplant, and my menstrual cycle has been all over the place since transplant but I am 49 so just assuming that I'm may be menopausal but other things that weren't right before transplant now seem better so maybe fixing liver issues fixes other things, take care 🌸
