My husband has cirhossis and just had repeat bloodwork done and his bilirubin went from 10 to 18 in one week. Doctor is very concerned and we are waiting to her from her. Is he in immediate danger? He was just in the hospital a month ago for 12 days and has not been drinking and following all the recommendations - low sodium, etc??
High bilirubin: My husband has cirhossis... - British Liver Trust
High bilirubin
The numbers sound fine. I don't know what the reference is but 21 is the usual figure for above normal. High bilirubin is not a good sign, my understanding is that it is a possible indicator of permanent damage. BUT I lived with high bilirubin for 15 years before transplant, others longer. The GP is first line, don't be scared about specialists, I'm here now because of them.
yes mine was 13 and the doctors were very pleased as previously it had been very high when i had a gallstone inside my dile duct and an infection.i dont think it is high, so try not to worry, love grace xoxo
My husband bilirubin was 300 plus. I wouldn't worry at all x
18 is okay and in normal range, repeat tests to see if it's climbing, I've been up to 280 before now, more recently low 200's. Until you have further tests I wouldn't worry. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing diet wise you can do to effect bilirubin levels, I have taken medication which appears to have helped to lower it but I can't be sure it was the pills or my body sorting itself out.
Thank you for the responses and encouragement. I just find it odd bc he has had ascitis and swelling in ankles and legs and now his feet , ankles and legs are back to normal - no swelling and he hasnt taken lasix in three days but so that seems better but bilirubin is increasing, so not sure. We are going to hospital tomorrow for more tests. 😊
