Sorry to hear this Bri.

Sorry can't offer any advice but maybe a call to your GP would throw some light on whether this is normal rather than stopping the meds completely.

Hope you get it sorted.

Before you stop taking them you need to speak to your doctor /consultant. rifaxamin is a very important medication, I remember having a bit of trouble with them at first. 16 times seems a lot but we all respond differently... good luck

Hi! I've beenon Rifaximin for about 4 months (500mg 2x a day) and I've had no problem with going to the loo. It has helped my HE tremendously though. Like cazar said, I'd try again too. Rifaximin is a very, very important medication regarding HE and you have been prescribed it for that specific reason.

Give it another go. Good luck 😀

So would you say cut the lactolouse out then and just have the rifamaxin bri

What dose of lactulose are you on Urbanblanks?

Rather than cut it out altogether perhaps a reduction would be better trying.

My hubby is on 20ml in the morning and 20ml at night together with his rifaximin - some days he goes more often than others and it's about getting the right balance. Some days he has to take an additional dose of lactulose. The lactulose isn't just to make you go though it does have specific properties that bind the toxins to remove them in the stool so probably not a good idea to stop taking them. Rifaximin in conjunction with Lactulose is the treatment for HE.

Hi yeah thanks for that I'm on only 30ml and I take that in the morning and it does the trick a few hours later and does seem to keep my head a bit clearer I just got a bit concerned when that happened as it was the only difference in the routine of Medstead rifamaxin bri

Perhaps to lessen its violent effects (lets say) you could perhaps play with the times you take it, maybe just take half in the morning and half at night and that way you're system isn't taking such a big hit. In late stage HE they use massive quantities of lactulose even given by enema - its all about flushing out those toxins.

We were told we could 'play' about with lactulose and we often did in the early days to reduce effects on days out etc. The addition of Rifaximin didn't change hubbies bowel habits at all but what did was iron tablets ......... talk about sudden and urgent need.

The discussions we have to have in our house - have you been? how often? colour of stools etc. We talk a lot of s**t in our house. LOL!!

Got to laugh, it keeps you sane.

Lol yeah same in ours like oh he's gotta a movement don't miss the moment etc but yes could try that breaking it up I didn't know iron made it worse but as far as you know the rifamaxin doesn't have anything to do with going to the toilet then bri
