I'm a 40 yr old male I went to the doctor cause I am tired all the time. I went from being a workaholic workin 14 hr days 7 day a week to not wanting to wake up. He did lots of blood tests everything was good except my red blood cells were a bit high so he sent me for a liver ultra sound. After I got my results he told me I have a coarse liver texture , in his words " livers should be smooth like the ones in the store but mine is like a bag of sand " I asked if I should be worried he said " that's what specialists are for " so ya now I'm online an a little worried . I'm a non drinker have always been , I'm under weight by 15 pounds an eat pretty healthy. My question is should I be worried ? Is there anything I can do till I see a specialist ?

You should get some mild exercise and eat a Liver friendly diet, no fats or sugars. Having a course Liver is not what you want obviously, usually a course Liver can mean scarring of the Liver, but some peoples just look rougher when there is nothing wrong, was the word "nodules" used or just rough appearance ?

Are there any Liver issues in your family? have you ever taken injected drugs, unprotected sex? Do you take alot of head ache pills? there are many causes for Liver damage, fatty liver disease, auto immune issues, viral issues hepc,a,b etc. Further investigation is required, the symptoms you describe with the rough appearance of your Liver have the doctor thinking about your Liver.

Do you have the results of your blood tests? if you post them then we can give you a good idea of what they mean.

I would definitely follow up with a specialist. Until then, take really good care of yourself.

As an ex-workaholic, I can say that its not worth it to keep up a stressful lifestyle like this. That whole work-life balance thing never really made sense to me until I started having health problems and chronic fatigue. Burn out is a very real and horrible thing to live through, sometimes with permanent consequences.

“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them — work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls — family, health, friends, and spirit — are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.” ―Brian Dyson, former vice chairman and COO of Coca-Cola

Sorry for the cheesy quote. Keep us updated on how it goes with the specialist!

I love that answer of yours, especially work bounces back like a rubber ball, while health with the others are not.
