Hi Angse, you probably shouldn't use ibuprofen gel.

The Looking After Your Liver Course which I am doing on line says that the liver has to process not only the stuff you ingest but also the stuff you put onto your skin in the way of cosmetics etc. So I would guess that masses of ibuprofen being smeared on your sore bits will also make its way through your system to the liver and could impact on your already poorly liver & since oral Ibuprofen is a no, no as concerned the liver, a rub/gel is the same.

I agree. Ibuprofen is on the bad for liver list I'm afraid.

On the plus side, I don't think it's very effective anyway.

Hi Annette, the inducement will get into the circulation even when applied topically. I have tried acupuncture for back & upper abdominal pain & I have found this helped the pain & my general frame of mind. I know not everyone finds it useful.

All the best

Morning Angse. I have had a few computer problems, so i have not been on these pages for a little while - and you probably have an answer from others already! I was told that the gel should also be avoided in the same way that the tablets are. Some of the active ingredient will still be absorbed into your body. It might be worth asking the pharmacist at your local chemist , what he / she would recommend.

Hi, I agree with the other advice. Ibuprofen can make you bleed and if you have clotting problems it is not good. I took a couple for dental pain and had a slight cracked lip due to a coldsore and the blood was running from my lip all down my front.

It is very harsh on the stomach as well, best to avoid.

I certainly have avoided it Julie, thanks for advice hope you keeping well. Annette !!

Don't do it angse. I used it for a sprained muscle, about a year ago and despite being reasonably stable I ended hospitalised with a nasty case of de-compensated liver disease. The medic's say that with liver disease any thing can trigger an episode, they recommend that along with a low sodium diet it is best to avoid anything that is not recommended for those who have liver problems.

Good luck
