Treatment in Scotland.

Hi there people. I am new on here. Greetings to everyone. I have read a few posts and it looks like a very supportive website. I,ve had hepc since 1982 and been treated unsuccessfully once with interferon. I have tried unsuccessfully to research the harvoni treatment protocol in Scotland. Does anyone know if it is compulsory to have ribavarin along side it. I am very allergic to a lot of drugs and cannot imagine I would tolerate ribavarin for long. Cheers

Hi beeeater...I'm having Harvoni treatment now with ribavirin....I was treatment naive

before i started....I think if you have had interferon in the past then maybe you will be given a different drug with the Harvoni....depend's on what genotype you are...do you know...i am 1a ...This combo is very successful with 1a...Currently undetectable so far...3 weeks to go.. Viekera pak is an oxption for you i think...goodluck.i'm Scottish...but i live in England.

Thanks for that. Great news for you being undetectable. I cannot get my hopes up that I will ever be free of the virus. I am genotype 1. I dont know if it is a or b. How are you finding the treatment.

I'm not going to lie to you,Physically fine but i've been feeling aggitated and a bit tempramental with the Ribavirin but if you get offered to have the treatment i'd say go for it.

Some people are offered Harvoni on it's own for 12wks...i am waiting to be treated and was told that Ribaverin doesn't need to be taken as Harvoni at 12wks works just the same ..i am geno type 4..but as far as i know 1 and 4 get treated with Harvoni ..people with cirrhosis are entitled to treatment ..but there is a criteria based on blood tests as to who will be treated first..but I'm in Hertfordshire..don't know about the treatment criteria for Scotland.

Hi there--I had Interferon and Ribaverin first before my transplant but they had to stop as things were getting bad. Post transplant I was lucky to get the Harvoni and Ribaveron this year, I'm geno 3 and it worked. The Ribaverin is a bit tricky--mood swings and anaemic etc so they lowered the dose after 8 weeks. The Hep C has now gone, hopefully for good. I think they don't give the Ribaverin if you are on any anti depressant tablets beacause of the possible side affects. Any way I hope they offer the treament to you soon, I know the powers what be are trying different combinations all the time to see which one works best. good luck to you and stay positive. x :)

Thanks for replies. I think I need to see an allergy specialist to see if there,s anyway of combatting drug allergies first. After recent episodes with different antibiotics I am getting very wary. I am allergic to 5 different classes of drug that I know of. Interferon was complete torture all those years ago. I just missed out on ribavarin then but doubt I could have coped with both. There was very little support hospital wise. Hepc doesn't cause me that many problems as yet. My fibroscan was 3 to 4. I don,t want to start something that I cant finish but obviously the idea of being rid of the virus is very tempting.
