Sugar is really bad for you as anything high in processed sugar makes your body overproduce insulin and makes you crave more crap and your body converts it to fat so whatever you burn off in the gym is replaced by more fat, cut out all processed carbs like white rice, bread and pasta and switch to brown. Also try although it is hard if your like me with a sweet tooth and cut out all crap, biscuits, cakes, crisp sweets etc and try to cook from scratch rather than ready made stuff. In a way it's all common sense if it came from a packet, jar etc its prob full of bad stuff and a lot of low fat stuff is high in sugar to make it taste good. You still need fats in your diet but the good ones in olive oil, oily fish etc.

I went to slimming world to help me as I need to feel checked up on or I cheat, I'm not good with willpower but if you check out their website, magazines there are some good easy healthy recipes to get you started without having to join and pay, the more colourful your plate is the better the food tends to be for you so you get a good balance of nutrients. Try to fill a third of your plate with veggies and protein should be a portion the size of the Palm of your hand.

Hope this helps and good luck. Take each day at a time and don't get disheartened or beat yourself if you slip up. Have a day off a week for treat day as long as you keep going you'll get there. Clare x

Slimming World is good for people who need continual mutual support from others to keep them going with a diet plan. If you feel you can manage by yourself, Clarebear is right with suggesting cutting out sugar from your diet, its amazing how fast you will lose weight and your teeth will be healthier too!

Also portion size is a good piece of advice too, most of us put far too much food on our plates and dont understand why we get heavier.

Its really difficult in the Western World to shop healthy, when so many of the aisles in the supermarket are stacked with convenience food full of sugar and salt. By avoiding all those shelves and buying fresh food which you cook yourself, you will be well on the way to giving your liver lots of TLC.
