Hi I have drunk heavily for the past 10 years. Having periods of not drinking for weeks and months on and off. I always have a dull ache in my righr side and have had 2 ultra sounds and blood tests over the years and all ok last blood test a month ago. I've had 5 months drink free but last week I drunk a lot . Now my side and back are hurting and I'm panicking I've done something to my liver. I haven't drank for the past 4 days. I do t know if it's muscular either as it pulls on my back when I twist. Any advice as I'm panicking.

Hi Amber1973 sounds to me like you need to stop drinking,it's the only way forward and it's the worse poison for liver disease.Theres a couple of ways of diagnosis for fatty liver, biopsy or scans.

I'm an ex d&d user and I'm sure F.L.D is the first stages of a bad liver and I'm sure your doctor or nurse would advise absolutely no drinking a good appropriate diet and a little light exercise.

Ps.The next stage up is Chirrosis so please follow Drs orders.

All the best, Scotty 😊💚

Hi, I'm in the same position as you. I'm absolutely terrified I have done some serious damage to my liver after drinking heavily on and off for the past 6-7years. I've had periods of no drinking but when I have it's always been a lot. It's worrying me so much and I'm scared to go and get tested. It's on my mind 24/7. It's good you have stopped drinking. I have a bit of on /off pain in my right side but not to touch and it's started since I've been worrying about my liver. I'm hoping it's just a warning and haven't done to much irreversible damage. Good luck x

Quite common to worry excessively....cutting down on the drinking is the best way forward

I suffer very bad anxiety too so any little pain I panic. It's nice to know someone feels the same and is going through the same. I had blood test come back normal few weeks ago and my ultrasound a year ago was fine too. That was after I was taken to hospital with gallstones they said the pain was the stone passing through. Keep me updated x

I suffer from Health anxiety so any pain is the worst case scenario. Since I've been worrying about this it started off as fatty liver then it got worse and worse and I'm convinced I've got cirrhosis from being so stupid and careless when I was younger. I'm so scared but people on here have made me feel a little better. I have given up alcohol completely, started exercising and eating healthily but I'm worried it's too little to late. If you have had blood tests and ultrasounds done I wouldn't worry as something would have come up. Just cut down and treat your liver well from now on :) xx

Firstly don't panic - fatty liver is reversible especially when caused by alcohol. Keeping fit and good diet helps too. I had been drinking for way longer than you and managed to reverse symptoms with diet and abstinence. It can 6 weeks or so before you start seeing real improvements so hang in there. Best k

Thank you for replies it's nice to have people who understand without judging. I'm off the alcohol now. I do go to the gym and changed my diet to a more healthy one these last couple of weeks. Less sugar fat and processed foods. Hopefully giving my liver a fighting chance x

many of us are here for similar reasons-we're not here to judge. Loads of very good advice to be had on this forum.

I wish I had an answer for you but I am answerless myself. I started on the liver journey after having weird symptoms for a few months and the stuff started popping up on my skin. It wasn't till I made it to the dermatologist that I was told to check my liver. I showed my primary care Dr at first but he blew me off cause he said my CMP from May was normal. Then I developed palmar erythema in both my hands and feet and knew there was no way the red palms, many spider angionomas and small broken veins that popped up all over my face meant nothing and went back to dr to ask for ultrasound. It says I have hepatocelluar disease likely caused by fatty liver. I haven't drank in 7 years... I have started diet and excersise but I am not feeling very positive lately. I have an appt to see liver specialist August 25th and when the nurse called me to make the appt she freaked me out by saying usually by the time skin issues start it's to late for your liver... scared the crap right out of me...

Anyways, I just wanted to share my story so you didn't feel alone... I have to believe everything will work out as I have young ones who need me. I will hold on to hope for all of us.

Thank you for your reply. I have little one also so know that feeling. What issues with your skin do you have. Was this before you stopped drinking. X

No, I stopped drinking 7 years ago and these things started to happen in March of this year. First started the spider angionomas but I didn't know what they were so I didn't worry very much as I was dealing with a lot already. Then I noticed a bunch of broken veins in my face. Around my nose, mouth chin cheeks etc. Then 3 weeks ago both palms of my hands turned red. All except the middle which dermatologist called Palmer erythema... all my normal veins are visible as well. I have olive skin tone and can normally not see my veins in my arms etc but they are all becoming visible. It's very strange. Told me to go back to my primary and get my liver checked out.
