I've now seen a gastro consultant who thinks it's my stomach not working properly that makes me ill, not my herniated liver.

I've now got to have a test which is similar to a barium swallow to see if my stomach can empty properly. He thinks that this may be causing my symptoms! He's not sure if it is my liver. The consultants just won't refer me to a liver specialist!

Be persistant. Wait for the results of your barium test and if these show nothing,ask to be referred again. Also ask for a repeat for blood tests which may indicate liver condition.

Hi Stumpy. A diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia suggests a hole in the diaphragm so presumably the treatment is to close the hole. Though the liver is the organ that is pushing up through the hole, im guessing the liver itself is healthy? Which might be the reason why a liver surgeon wouldn't be the best type of surgeon to close the diaphragm? With increasing BMI of the patient comes increased risk for the anaesthetist, more risk to the patient's heart and more risk of post operative infection. I think surgery to diaphragmatic hernia is more common in babies and young children when these surgical complications are not an issue.

Thanks Bolly, but I've lost weight because I keep being sick! I'm fed up with tests I've just had a general anaesthetic on my only leg and I came through that! I'm sick of doctors and other professionals going on about BMI. Every one is different and nobody doctors always go by the book! I know some people are big because of fast food outlets, but a lot of people are big because of genes! I came on here for support not to be told about my BMI! If nobody is going to support me then I'm lost, as I've nobody else! I live alone although my family visit, but they don't stick up for me! I've battled for three years, I now might aswel give up! Every where I turn I come up against brick walls and comments about life style! I can hardly eat as it is, and it's doing my head in! Some times I've even thought of ending my life, because I've got no quality. I await replies then I'll decide whether to carry on!
