Just need a rest?

October got the great news type 2 diabetic šŸ˜• over the past couple of stressful years I have lost a lot of weight and wasnā€™t big to start with and now the dropping of carbs and any treats since October I am very very lean !

I have been trying to build muscle 3 x week lifting dumbbells and it is changing my body shape (whatā€™s left of it) Iā€™m still running but only twice a week as some days I am just worn out. I miss it but think Iā€™m probably wearing myself into the ground.

Blood sugars are lower but itā€™s a minefield what to eat and lots of scammers on the internet trying to take your money when the information is out there but such a lot to take in.

Anyone else in the same boat? Just feeling it today just want to be healthy and keep running as it soothes my tormented mindšŸ˜

Well done Ā Wavy-chick28 ā€¦I havenā€™t and donā€™t know of anyone with diabetes but I know how tiring and hard it can make thingsā€¦as far as your running goes though, if twice a week is enough then thatā€™s perfect for youā€¦last thing you want to do is become a shadow of yourself because youā€™re working yourself too hard, listening to your body is the important thing here. Beware the scammers though, there are scam for almost everything now, itā€™s so easy to get trappedā€¦donā€™t forget to be kind to yourself x

Thank you, was feeling proper down this morning but picked myself up brushed myself off and had some scrambled eggs šŸ˜‚

You are right if Iā€™m feeling exhausted perhaps just a bit of yoga to get me moving, tomorrow is another day and Iā€™m looking after my Grandaughter 3 yrs old! So another reason to get some rest !!

That's bad luck, and I think tiredness comes with diabetes, so take the best care of yourself that you can and run when you have the energy xx

I also have type 2 diabetes and managed to pot it into remission using the Fast 800 diet. Michael Moseleyā€™s diet - a bit intense but it does work. I bought a couple of recipe books, you donā€™t need to pay out a fortune, and did it with that. Diabetes UK also has information about achieving remission. Exercise is massively helpful too so you are doing everything right. Good luck with it and keep runnning!

Thank you itā€™s good to hear you have kicked it into remission itā€™s just been overwhelming having to deal with it all but then you would understand. Running is my saviour even a short one round the block lifts the spirits rain or shine x

As Rabbit561 mentions the Michael Mosely Book is great... my husband is Type 2... but we didn't fast. (not enough calories for him or for me and my exercise) .

MM's wife has a great recipe book that goes hand in hand with his. Diabetes UK is great and very down to earth. You do not have to spend wasted money on diabetic products and you can still have treats!

Their magazine comes with great recipes too if you register...my husband did not have tiredness but healthy eating regime really is the key. Mediterranean eating ideas, are great.

October diagnosis is not that long ago... you will settle I feel sure, into new eating regime and new exercises too. Try some core strength rather than the hefty weights maybe...

However if you are feeling as tried and worn out as you say...maybe it would be a good idea to go and get things checked with your GP or Diabetic focused, nurse?

Alwyas good to see what is going on with advice from an expert?

Thanks Oldfloss, I have all the reading material I think Iā€™m just impatient and gone like a banshee avoiding foods and exercising like mad šŸ˜‚ definitely resting and might get another appointment with the nurse x

itā€™s really miserable feeling tired all the time. I think Iā€™d be heading to my GP to make sure there wasnā€™t something else going on, like anaemia, that can be sorted with help from them. It might be youā€™ve just pushed a little too hard and youā€™re not fuelling yourself enough for all the activity youā€™ve doing. Taking some rest time and some advice from qualified people seems a wise course of action.

Really hope you can get to the bottom of this and sending hugs xx

Thank you, I have a form of leukaemia I like to try and forget it but that is linked to my lack of red cells! Itā€™s probably a bit of everything, def resting more this week x

my husband is a T1 diabetic which is not quite the same but fatigue is real. He tries to manage glucose spikes with exercise rather than insulin but itā€™s tough. Like you he struggles with diminishing muscle mass and doesnā€™t have an ounce of fat on him. Maybe look at The Glucose Goddess who has great advice around glucose spikes and simple strategies to manage them. Michael Mosely fast 800 is great and I lost 4 stone and probably avoided T2 diabetes thanks to him but you do not need to lose weight. Itā€™s also brutal and the memory of a snack of miso soup has kept me on the straight and narrow ever since.

I would also go back to your GP - I have been feeling really unwell and tired for months, palpitations, muscle pain etc. turned out I had really low Vit D which was very unexpected as I spend more time outside than in and a couple of months on a supplement and I feel much better

Itā€™s always worth checking. Once you have any kind of illness itā€™s easy to put all your symptoms down to that and miss something else

Good luck

78 this year, had type 2 for 30 odd years. Yes weights, running, sensible diet but for me keeping my Protein at a height level seems to have kept me going. You can't maintain or build muscle without Protein. Good luck, D2 will become background after a while.

Thanks Iā€™m piling on the protein! You have made it seem less dramatic now šŸ˜€
