Insertional Achilles tendinitis

Has anyone got/had this and any stories of recovery and what worked?

I've not run since last July when I felt a niggle in my ankle which then developed into pain when first getting out of bed, moving around and driving.

I went to the see a MSK podiatrist for some inserts, he did a quick exam and ultrasound and told me that I had Achilles tendinitis. I went to see a physio for some exercises which were very painful, and she told me to decrease these set of exercises. I then was ill for around 6 weeks with a bad chest infection so things ground to a halt. I then tried shockwave therapy and this wasn't remotely successful.

I have since discovered that I have insertional Achilles tendinitis which should be treated in a different way to the more common types of Achilles problems. I've seen another podiatrist who did a biometric analysis, has given me different inserts and a different set of exercises to do.

I've also just signed up for a set of acupuncture as a last ditch attempt at trying to get rid of this problem. I know that it takes a long time to get over this so not expecting miracles. I'd be happy to be able to walk and drive without discomfort let alone to go back to running at this stage.

As a further complication I'm hypermobile and menopausal and seem to be prone to tendinitis issues at this lovely stage in my life 😂

🍏🤗Now that sounds like a rough time all round! Sorry about that and hope you recover soon to get back into walking and running!

I spent a fortune and nearly three years trying to fix this with physios. Nothing ever lasted long. Then I tried deep tissue massage with a sports therapist. Unlike the physios, he treated the whole "chain" from hip to base of foot. It took ten weeks of weekly visits with a daily stretch routine in-between, and was a bit 'ouchy' but it worked when nothing else did and I was so grateful. Worth a try I'd say. Good luck, whichever route you follow, I know all too well the frustration involved.
