How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & other park runners, (not) park runners,

No park run for us today as our local one was cancelled due to a fireworks event being set up. Hubby was speaking at a training day so no tourist park runs possible. I did run an early slow 30minute run to round up my weekly miles.

I’m the 30minute pacer next week at Park run so best speed up for that. I haven’t run a sub 30 for a couple of weeks so let’s hope I can deliver on the day.

Happy park running to those who can ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Today’s run

Hello everyone, Damienair, Parkrunners, joggers, walkers, or not.

A crisp morning, but not bitingly cold which gave me frotstbitten fingers two weeks ago!

My running seems to love the cold because I got a PB of 32.39 (6 seconds faster than my previous). I hadn’t run in the week (can’t fit into my current morning schedule -new job & kid to get ready for school) but did do some weights (2kg arms & squats) that seems to have really strengthened me to power a bit harder up the hills (there’s 3 you have to do on my home course). It’s great when your body feels strong, the run is enjoyable rather than a struggle.

Hope everyone had good parkrun or not parkrun experience. Rock on to next week. ✨

Good afternoon Damien and all! Actually quite an early reply for me this week! First home parkrun since about mid December due to the weather and touristing. It was nice but odd to be back. It was quite icy to begin with and the grass sections got muddier and muddier the more we went round. We also had quite a high number of parkrunners due to Leamington being off, 433 is more a pre-Covid number for us.

Very chuffed with my time today. I had it in my head that I wanted to do a faster one, and  Katnap and I did a warm up jog beforehand, which always helps. After culling my shoes earlier on in the week (getting rid of shoes that were injuring me) my choice is down so it was the Boston 12s this morning which I have a love/hate thing with as they are a pig to get on my feet. Anyway, they did me well as I went sub 28 minutes for the first time in ages and it turns out to be my fastest run since May last year. Considering last Saturday morning I was having trouble running at all I’m very happy with that 😊

Time to remind myself that I’m ok at this and get on with the HM training as it’s only a month to the next one. Next week is Run Directing for the first time in quite a while (due to the flooding in late December) but I’ll make sure I get some speed work done during the week.

Have a great runny week everyone 😍👍👍

It’s crazy Dexy. Between us we have so many, it was good to make some space. I’ve got another pair in transit atm but they all get well used unless they start causing problems. I usually have at least two pairs on rotation and one for racing.

Hello everyone. I ran this morning at my local parkrun with Ruby my Cocker Spaniel. It was a lovely morning and I was feeling good. I’ve lost 18 lbs since October which has helped and I was able to run it all at a lovely easy pace. My first time running a full 5K in a long time. Not fast and I managed a nice a finish time of 35:38. Happy with that. Nice gradual improvement.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to damienair

That’s brilliant Damien, please tell me your secret as I’ve managed to put on weight since Christmas 😭 Well done on your run, great to see you on the up again 😃

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to TailChaser

I've read quite a bit on the subject. In 1977 only 25-30% of US Population was over weight and obese. Now it is around 75% of the population. In 1977 people ate 3 meals per day. Now people on average eat 8-9 meals per day. So I stopped snacking. I only eat 3 meals per day and I gave up bread. Honestly that's all I've done. Whole food as much as possible and cut out processed food as much as possible. I'm feeling better for it but miss the beer. :-)

A smaller (719) turnout than previous weeks, but still huge at Eastville. I felt great and could have run the lot, but I’m sticking to my guns and did C25K W4R3 with Flossie for company.

Good afternoon Damien, a so so run for me today at the nearest parkrun to where I live which is Palacerigg Country Park parkrun, that's the all trail course with the last 400 metres all uphill to the finishing line, that last 400 metres is also the muddiest part of the whole course, I was happy to get a sub 35 minute time of 34:17, the weather was dry but quite windy and mild, temperature 7C.

For the next two weeks I will be a marshall, next week Springburn parkrun in Glasgow and in two weeks back to Palacerigg parkrun for the second time as a marshall.

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

A so so run beats a no no run every time Al. We need a bit of warmth in the air and less mud on the ground! Good run on a tricky course by the sounds of it 👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

Thanks Beachcomber66 there were a lot of runners saying it was hard in the wind and complaining of the last 400 metres

Last summer there were improvements to the course, hardcore was put down on about 75% but on the last, which is also the first 400 metres only sand was put down, that sand has now been washed away with the rain, so it's back to mud and puddles when there is rain.

Hello damienair and all, a mild morning with a light breeze in Southsea brought out 482 runners this week. Portsmouth Lakeside was cancelled again so their runners are spreading around our local events.

I wasn’t quite with it this morning as I completely forgot to start my watch early to get the GPS signal, and I’d run 500m before garmin clicked in. I also forgot to switch my music on so I ran all 5k without it!

So I estimate a real time of 33:35 and my parkrun time was 34:12. I’m still searching for 2 illusive numbers on my Stopwatch Bingo.

DiogoC profile image
DiogoCGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

The stopwatch bingo is rather elusive. Don't try to get the numbers by delaying/hurrying up, your clock will never match the official one, unless you know for sure when the timekeepers started theirs.

There's a fun video about probability that uses the Stopwatch bingo as a reference. A runner took close to 250 runs to get his Bingo completed, which apparently is actually too few. It could take a lot more, so just keep going!

As Dexy mentioned, the pump was still not fixed at Lakeside so it was back to Great Salterns for the second week in a row. My piriformis niggle has improved somewhat so after a careful 4k run/walk in the week I thought 5k was worth a try at a gentle pace. It was still a bit sore but I managed it with a brief walk in the middle and finished in 37.18. Oh and my 150th parkrun seems to have crept up on me - done and dusted! 😀

Hello Damien and fellow parkrunners! After a week missed due to being in France, it was back to Market Rasen this morning for my 95th parkrun. Somehow I managed to pick up a slight muscle strain tidying the garden in France, which, added to continuing niggling of my piriformis, meant I took it steady and had a few walking breaks, so only managed 35.51. However, I am determined that my 💯 parkrun will be on 16 March, barring severe weather related disruption, so it had to be done. Physio appt on Thursday. Happy running all!

Went to Durlston Country Park parkrun Dorset today. It competes for the title of the UK’s hilliest parkrun with Whinlatter in the Lake District. It was challenging to put it mildly though with fantastic views of the Jurassic coastline with the Isle of Wight in the distance (hi aliboo70 👋) . Some parts of this undulating course required me to put my hands on my knees and push to the ground to help me climb up cliff side slopes! There were 90 runners including an 87 year who does it every week. This was my 40th different course and definitely the most beautiful so far.

I know it looked challenging on Strava, but that is something else. You are one crazy, but very determined, woman 🙌👏🏻💪🏻

😆😆😆. Apple Watch says 245m elevation gain. Garmin says 261m. Whatever the true figure is it’s flipping high! 🤪🤪

Well done Mudita11. Durlston was my house name when I went to school at Swanage, and I really should do that one, but I might end up doing it in hiking boots!

You should Dexy5 ! We had brunch in Swanage afterwards. Love that town, but the scenery WOW! I love the giant stone globe at Durlston. We ran up and down the paths around it. My legs are a bit achey today 😂

Ooh those steps 😬. I do love it when a parkrun event is completely different to an everyday run though.

Well done on ticking off your 40th different parkrun and on doing such a tough one too. Great effort.

I didn't parkrun today. Went on a social walk with girlguiding colleagues. I'm a volunteer leader of a pack. But I did walk 14.5km and do over 20,000 steps so I think I made up for missing parkrun!

You absolutely made up for it. Great distance walked. Well done.

Completed my 15th yesterday, second fastest too. A bit chilly but really enjoyed it and found I’m now starting to think about how to improve rather than just going at it from the start like a bull in a china shop.

Going to miss one in a couple of weeks time which is annoying but these things happen …

Well done you. Yes takes time to learn how to pace yourself. Sounds like your well and truly hooked like the rest of us. 10 more to go to get your 25 milestone T-Shirt.
