helllllooooooo..how you doing? I have had a lovely response to the quest this month…I am truly hoping it’s all going well for you all???
I am coming to you all for some inspiration…I’ve made time two times this week for a morning run because I absolutely HATE running in the heat and boy has it been boiling???!!! I’m hoping to make it out tomorrow before the heat sets in….how are you all doing??? I am going to try get some swimming in this week too, it’s that long since I went swimming I think I’ve forgotten what to do!!! I know I said Sept is my favourite time of year for running but actually, this year it isn’t, it’s just too flippin warm!!! Anyway…whatever happens we are all in this together….let’s hope we get some relief from this heat and can get some proper running in….
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or a goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during September.
⭐️ Sometimes when we commit to something publicly, it’s the start of an achievement.
You need, please, to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest.
The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
⭐️ To run three times a week
⭐️ To slowly increase distance
⭐️ To train for a specific race
⭐️To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine.
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
You may want to begin by reading the pinned post about Consolidation for some ideas to help you find a goal
If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
“I would like to join the quest”, or, “MummyCav count me in! I would like to...”
So please come and join us…it doesn’t matter when in September you come on board just jump in & let’s keep cheering each other on!
I’m planning a run early on tomorrow..we’ve got this 💪

Morning you! Yes it has been warm and early or late has just got to be the answer.
I get out not really early, but early enough to miss the very warm temps.
Okay.
* Week 1 C25K done.
* Yesterday: Week 2 Run 1 done. Went well, with me thinking how quicky the 90 second runs went! Relaxed and enjoyed , getting down to the Esplanade and seeing these again and all the early swimmers.
*Routine exercise continues with added bits as I feel they are needed. Hip work at the moment as the tops of my hips are a bit tender...not running for six weeks I think!
* YWA I intend to try and up a little bit. I have been doing things, especially the breathing...but I am going to dip into here September activities I think.
* Continuing to focus on putting weight back on ... lost it all again after Mr OF's heart attack! I am getting there but slowly, but it is good because I am trying new recipes again and being innovative!
Yay!! Week one in the bag and on to week 2 already…you sound to be enjoying it too..that’s great….last run of week 1 for me this morning, I’m keeping Monday mornings for myself for as long as I can so I can crack on and start my week with a run…and get the other ones on as and when I can fit them in…I don’t know what I did with my time before I started working!!!
Sounds like you’re enjoying trying new recipes too…a change is as goo Lf as a rest they say!!
Looking forward to hearing how week 2 has gone for you…and as ever, I’m cheering for you xx
Well, maybe we can get in sync... ! I have run 2 of week 2 penciled for Wednesday...so maybe you could sneak your Week2 Run 1 in then
Yes... little and often and lots of yoghurt and honey and smoothie breaks too... plus some weight putting on treats... it does not help that I don't eat the stuff that would put weight on fast!
I do make banana loaf and muffins too... ! trouble is we do not add any refined sugar, we use apple for sweetener, or sometimes honey or the natural fruit, like sultanas etc... I do however love egg custards,,, so I may binge on those for a while!
Hopping back into the quest at week 2! Plan for September is to keep up the regular 5Ks (3x a week) before starting back onto Juju's magic plan from October! As much as I've enjoyed the summer and heatwave, I think it's time for some cooler weather 😄
🍏Thank you for another lovely quest to keep us motivated Mummycav Glad you have had two runs in spite of the heat & swimming sounds like a nice cool idea!
I am still having to wait it out, until I have my MRI scan on Friday. I am itching to get back, but have been walking with hubby and doing some Strength & Flex in the meantime. Now my pain is under control I am hoping to add in some Pilates this week.
Well done on getting out early - definitely the sensible thing to do. It has been ridiculously hot though.
I think my quest is going ok. It's been a bit of a juggling act as daughter back to school this week, now in her final year of GCSE's and discussing the next steps for A-Levels.
Managed 2 runs - one on the treadmill mid week 🥵 and one early yesterday morning which was lovely.
Have only done one strength workout but a couple of yoga sessions and plenty of walking.
This week will be much the same with some more strength and core work but hopefully in slightly more cooler conditions.
I want to do a Parkrun this month after many months off. I have been running 3 times a week, but early mornings to avoid the heat, but of course Parkrun starts at 9am, so if the heatwave continues it will be far too hot for me, so I am praying for rain!
I also think I need to incorporate some strength and flex exercises but last time I looked at the Strength and Flex pages I found it all too confusing and gave up! I couldn’t seem to find easily accessible exercises, but I was probably looking in the wrong place!
Oh I hope you get a park run in if it’s your thing…I live opposite the park where our local one is, everyone always makes it look like they’re having a good time but I must be missing something coz it’s my worst nightmare!!! Lol…
Thank goodness the heat seems to be easing off a bit so you might get one in this Saturday?!
If you click on the link you’ll find the latest post on S&F by Oldfloss …I’m sure she’d be pleased to see you over there..and if you have any questions or are unsure about anything she will be more than pleased to help you…have a good week x
Hi beth_f glad to hear you’re doing well & still on track and managing to juggle everything, it’s like spinning plates sometimes isn’t it!?!? My youngest is also in his final year at high school, no idea what his next step will be but like I’ve said to them all, right now isn’t the rest of your life so if you’re not sure don’t worry about it…I hope your daughter settles on something she enjoys x
I’ve been looking forward to the new quest post because despite the heat (and I’m totally with you on hating running in it), I’ve had a great week. Looking back on my goals, I’ve actually achieved all of them.
Three consistent, enjoyable runs a week
Yes, yes, yes and yes! I actually managed four runs. There was a lot of sweat and I mainly looked like a tomato but I’ve really enjoyed the pressure free running this week. The two highlights were a really chilled five miler and a forty minute holiday pootle where I got really lost round a housing estate and accidentally found a forest. It’s been great to have the pressure off. This week I’m going to try some intervals again once the weather turns. I’ve missed a good speedy run!
Two (ideally three) strength and flex sessions
Yes, yes, yes and yes again! I’ve done a couple of Pilates classes and two strength classes this week. Weights have gone up again and I got complimented on my form which was nice. This week is going to be tougher because I’m going to be busier but hopefully I can still tick them off.
Use the dreaded massage ball!
I did another horrible massage with it. Once a week feels like more than enough! I can definitely feel the difference which makes it worth it.
So all good here. I had a bit of a pang seeing the Great North Run posts but I’m still pleased I made the decision to defer.
Have a great week of questing everyone! Thanks for keeping us on track Mummycav ❤️❤️❤️
Yay!!! Wowzers MissUnderstanding you are killing it this week!!! Soooooo glad we’re all getting out and about…and it’s RAINING here in Yorkshire today so I am looking forward to another run tomorrow while it’s cooler!! We could create a ‘tomato club’ …us two could be the first two members!!! Enjoy the rest of your week nailing your goals!! xx
Hi mummycav, that week went by quicker than it felt at the time!
Well it was so hot I decided to be kind to myself. I ran just the once, a nice easy run - the slowest pace I've consistently run for 40 minutes.
Kept up the 11,000 steps per day, and some days that really was a challenge. Had to save most of the steps for the evening, which meant a lot of them done in the dark. Anyway we found a nice route that we hadn't done before that works out to 5k, so we're going to run that at some point.
The only other exercise was a few stretches, squats and calf-raises each morning before getting in the shower.
So relieved the heatwave has now passed and looking forward to getting back on it this week. This week's speed run, held over from last week, is a 25 minute tempo run plus warmup and cooldown, and I'm hoping for a new 5k PB!
Did 2 out of 3 runs, no gym weight sessions and no swim 🙄
However, I did a different sort of weight session as I was doing house clearance in readiness to sell my parents flat so plenty of heavy lifting, bending and stretching going on.💪💪
What this does mean is there is plenty of room for improvement to get somewhere near my September quest targets in the remaining weeks 👍
Well done to my fellow questers who all seem to be doing marvellously
Hi with you regarding the heat, it has been unbelievably hot here too. I try to get out early, as it is way too hot later. Strange as there has been horrible flooding elsewhere. We had some rain last night but thankfully not too much. I have been running for 30 to 35 minutes (a tad under 5k but this is great for me!) and doing work outs with weights or pilates other days.
I was planning to add a specific goal here, almost got around to it - but then I got a bad toothache and got busy with being sorry for myself. I'm a lot better now so I'll tell you about it anyway:
I'd noticed that the tempo I was running at was fluctuating, it also seemed like I was only getting slower when I put more effort into it, and vice versa. Less effort, more speed. Weird.
So my quest this week has been to run more efficiently and watch my form. I increased the tempo 10:30 to 09:05 in a week - not at all bad, considering that I stayed at 75 percent of HRmax.
Today I was so relieved that the toothache was gone (I only take antibiotics now, no need for painkillers) that I just let go and ran at 8 min/K for 2 K.
Here we are in Week 3 of September. I have left it a little late to state my quest, which is to carry on training for my first 10K event early next month. This should have been a fairly easy quest, as I have been running regularly and increasing my distance gradually, until I reached 10K about a month ago. But then work overload happened and I have run 10K only a couple more times. Now I am in Spain for a week of work and 2 weeks of holiday....very hot, a little too much lovely vino. I will try to squeeze in some 5K runs at sunrise, so I don’t lose fitness. The photo shows an approx. 5km run along the river by my hotel this morning. Off to a good start. I hope to repeat this run on Friday. Next week I will need to plan routes in unknown towns where we will be staying during the holiday.
