Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

This morning I was running at my local parkrun with my doggie Ruby. I ran, jogged and walked my way around in gorgeous sunshine. It’s lovely and warm so I just relaxed and enjoyed being out in the beautiful weather. No records or PB’s , my Garmin watch says I did it in a time of 37:40 . I’ll push myself some other day. Enjoy the fabulous weather everyone.
Good morning Damien, on a beautiful sunny morning I ran my 83rd parkrun at Drumpellier Parkrun, No. 22 there in a time of 32:31 with a +60% age grading of 60:48%, there were 147 running and walking, I was position 101, next week I'll be the tailwalker for the second time at Palacerigg parkrun, enjoy the rest of the day in the sunshine.
Today I went to Thames Path, Woolwich (that’s the parkrun’s actual name), the newest parkrun in London. It was the fifth event today and it was very well organised and marshalled. I almost got a PB.
It was the second parkrun I’ve done, after nearby Victoria Dock, that doesn’t take place in a “park”, though this one does include a bit in a park, where you have to go up (and then down) this spiralling hill where you have really nice views of London.
I think that after completing JuJus plan and doing my 10K, I’m now going to follow Nikes Run Club 5K plan, which includes some speed work. Gotta get below my 35 mins average.
There is a lot of banter on Facebook between Somerdale parkrun, which is the original curly wurly parkrun, and Thames Path who called their spiral a curly wurly. We have said Thames path should be called a walnut whip as it goes around a hillock! Looks nice to run along the Thames .
Funny enough, someone I follow on Strava posted the Somerdale parkrun today. I can confirm it is a lot more curly wurly than this. I agree, it should be the walnut whip
Now I fancy a Walnut Whip! 😋 I haven’t had one of those for decades! Yes, Somerdale Pavilion has every right to be the original Curly Wurly, as the Fry’s (then Cadbury’s) factory used to be on the same site. The factory is now a huge housing complex, but the legacy still stands! It’s such a fun PR!
Hi damienair & (not) park runners, and park runners,
It was mine & no.2 son’s 50th park run.Hubby, no.2 son and I were all running today. No.2 son was off school yesterday with a headache so was going to run slow. I offered to run with him but apparently there’s slow & there is slow🤣
We had pacers today so my plan was to run sub 30. I knew it wouldn’t be a PB day as still not 100% from the bug. The 30 minute pacer shot off & was running so fast that I couldn’t catch her the whole park run 🤔
No.2 son got 20:20, Hubby got 27:53 & I came in at 29:14
I was chatting to the Run Director after Park run & I’m going to put my name down to be the 30min pacer one month.
That’s a huge milestone in my running journey that I’ve built enough confidence to volunteer to pace sub 30.
Well done RW, that’s really positive news! You certainly put the mileage in to deserve that confidence. Congratulations to you both on your 50th’s 👏👏👏👏
Solo trip to Clevedon for me today as Jenny is in London for the weekend. Perfect conditions yet again and I merrily bimbled my way around in 37.30 (37:23 Garmin including the extra bit to make it up to 5k at the end!). 4 seconds quicker than last week.
We’ll be back at Severn Bridge next weekend all being well. My PR of choice as I’ll then be missing three Saturdays in a row due to our 2 week Brittany trip. I’m not complaining! 🇫🇷❤️
glad you enjoyed a good bimble cheekychipmunks . It must seem strange without Jen there now, even though you did many parkruns alone before she moved down. I think it would have been windy on the bridge today.
Hello damienair and all, Another sunny day on the south coast with a 22 mph NE wind again. This is much better than the prevailing westerlies because you don’t have to battle the wind in the return leg to the finish line. The marvellous Coddfish and Mr C were there, only a day after her chemo session. aliboo70 and her partner came to visit again today so Ali and I ran together and chatted on the way out. But conversation reduced on the way back as we concentrated more on the run. I passed some of my usual targets, which was pleasing and we came in one after the other with a parkrun time of 33:35. I felt quite strong today and I put that down to the longer slow run I am doing mid week.
Then , as per usual, the 6 of us headed for a cafe, overlooking the beach .
Afternote: oh yes UpTheStanley was there too with another sub 25!
Lovely photo of all of you in the cafe with the sea in the background Dexy5, this morning I had a problem with my barcode, it wouldn't scan, the volunteer blamed the blazing sunshine for the problem on his device as he was having the same problem with other runners too, eventually he wrote down on a notepad my barcode number, my position and I told him my name, the result came through as normal, it was a brilliant sunny day with no wind or clouds in the sky, my time was 32:31 at Drumpellier Parkrun today, next week for the second time I will be the tailwalker at Palacerigg parkrun.
thank you. At the moment I can still run, but not immediately after chemo. Last week I ran on day 6 and day 8, the latter in the morning, when chemo was that afternoon, where treatment was days 1 and 8, if that makes sense. Based on last time it will get harder over time, but I will keep running as long as I can. The poles make walking the distance when very tired, a bit easier.
Good run Dexy5 in impeccable company. Good to hear about a great time from UTS too; he has been hiding his light recently. The cafe here has been a bit over run this week; back to normal on Monday I hope! 🙂
Totally gorgeous in Liverpool where we’ve been today Damien. We’re collecting eldest kitten from Uni.
Katnap and I ran Princes parkrun with eldest kitten volunteering as a barcode scanner. 665 took part, which is the busiest parkrun we’ve been to post Covid. Apparently it’s been very busy since Eurovision but today’s run was particularly special as it was a Nelson, number 555.
Despite getting up stupidly early to go up there we both had respectable times. My heart rate was only up because I was so tired. Unfortunately my watch threw a wobbly and didn’t record the time properly or record the map, so I’m guessing the GPS didn’t kick in at all. Still it was a nice surprise to see the finish funnel as I still thought I had 0.5km to go!
On our way home now, listening to the football. We saw a myriad of coaches and cars with flags flapping out of their windows, on their way down to Wembley this morning.
I have no idea either JP but I do remember the cricket umpire David Shepherd used to dance a little jig when the score was one of them (that’s no help though 😂)
It was a hernia-enforced walk again at Lakeside's 296th parkrun today. After last week's fast parkwalker time at Southsea with no ill effects, I thought I'd continue with that sort of pace this week - could I crack 50 mins? It was a beautiful morning with very little wind - 214 finishers, of which I was number 204. I even risked a very gentle jog over the finish line and came in at 48.28 - not bad!
My 70th parkrun today, and 29th location. A tourist trip to Chichester along the south coast as I needed a C for the alphabet challenge and I’ll take any reason to try a new one 😂. Interesting course - which is snaking up a hill then run straight down 3 times in all. Enjoying this fabulous weather we currently have in the UK. Long may it last.
Late run for me today. After doing intervals with Chelsea on Thursday, I decided to try to up my 5k pace a bit today. So I copied the intervals starting format with a slow warm up .8k, did a bit of stretching and then started my 5k. I was puffing and blowing a bit, but managed to settle into a steady pace which produced a 33:54. I was a bit surprised to be awarded a Garmin World Cycling Day badge…but I guess everyone running today got that! Anyway, I now have a base figure to work on each Saturday in the hope that I can pick up pace a little bit, and maybe it will gradually knock on to my long runs. Not going mad; just trying to perk things up a bit. 🙂
Back at PR. My Garmin time was a tad slower than my first 5K in last week's 10K. I should have tried a bit harder but sticking to my own jeffing timetable probably prevented a potential injury. I nearly pulled a calf muscle jumping over a fence rope! Stayed to help sort 730 tokens and take the trolley back so I didn't get back home til 11:15 - that is the volunteer's lot (sometimes). So glad to be back 5 runs in after almost 4 weeks off ill.
Like nowster it was my 71st yesterday and the first time I've run having walked down to get there. (The car was doing a uni visit with husband and younger daughter. ) It's about 40 mins to get there, so I took the run slowly (34:12), knowing I'd need to walk back up after! I might have been to Costa between Parkrun and the walk back up however! Round trip of 15000 steps!
Lots of Walking this week and next as it’s holiday time!
So in Spain 🇪🇸 making the most of the pool and the lovely weather! We walk everywhere out here unless my Mother in law takes us somewhere! Yesterday we had a stroll along the beach front at la Mata which was a couple of miles the day before we walked around ten miles along the beach front and around the market in town and to and from Dinner in a tiny Swedish restaurant/bar!
Today is relax day Sun swimming and of course dinner already had breakfast of coffee tostada como tomato 🍅 at a local bar!
Having a break form the sun as it fierce today and already in high twenties!
That's so interesting. Have finished week 6 of C25K, with run 1, week 7 tomorrow, I'm just starting to wonder what comes next. And also a way to find running budd(y/ies) in real life.
Hi Damien, I ran my very first Parkrun at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ran the Great Manchester Run this year in the hope of enjoying it the second time around but once again found the route very boring despite the atmosphere being fab at the beginning and at the end. At the Parkrun, the scenery was delightful and I just enjoyed running in lovely surroundings and being able to do so safely with lots of fellow runners with no desire to look at the usual running stats other than celebrating what running has done for my wellbeing over the last three years. It felt wonderful to be part of a community on Saturday, be in nature and take in fresh air and I hope to join another again soon.
For any of you suffering blisters, Compeed has become parkrun’s latest partner. My daughter works for Perrigo (the company who market Compeed) and has been heavily involved in making this happen. She is an on and off runner, including doing both the Hackney half marathon and the Great South Run once, but has never embraced parkrun, probably too early on a Saturday morning in the past, and now she has a dog. Maybe she will now.
