Yes, they're back! The virtual HealthUnlocked HM and 10k events, that is. Iβm posting here on behalf of the Marathon team to tell you all about what's planned!
Free to enter, and with no complicated terms and conditions in sight, these virtual events are a fun way to join your VRBs (virtual running buddies) for a no-pressure 10k or half-marathon. We're not competing against one another!
While you're invited to head to the start line at Sunday 14th May, 9.30am (UK time), you can also take part at any other time Sunday 14th - Sunday 21st May inclusive.
You get to choose your route - it could be a favourite, or one you've never run before - it's up to you! Or if you already have an event planned, feel free to count that as your HU virtual event.
Hello Cmoi - I would tentatively like to do the 10km please.
Returning from knee injury and having been hoping to build up to 10km again so this would fit in with the plan (as long as no further issues along the way).
Hi and welcome! As a regular 'injury returner' myself, I completely understand your caution - it can bes so hard to believe in yourself again. Use this event as a goal to aim for, but keep listening to your body. There are always more events to shoot for if the pressure gets to be too much or if some issue or another crops up.
Having said that, let's be positive - we look forward to seeing you on the start line. Keep an eye on the Marathon and Race Support forum for further posts π
I think I've also managed to rope in my husband to join me (he's a very accomplished runner) and he would like to get back to the longer runs, so it will be nice to have some in real life support along the way (and probably sensible advice as well - but don't tell him I said that π€«π)
Hi Cmoi, I'm a tentative for the 10k, so far I only managed three 10k runs before I had to stop for an epigastric hernia repair at the end of February.
I should be able to start running again in a couple of weeks time. Do you think I would be able to work back up to 10k in time for this or would it be too soon?
Hi. I'm not sure how long you have been stopped running? That will affect what fitness you have lost and at what distance you can start back. How about I put you down and you simply see how you get on with your comeback. There is no pressure if you need to pull out, but on the other hand it may give a nice goal and added focus as you build back up again. I'll add you to the list and wish you all the best, but don't hesitate to say if it feels like it's going to be too much at any time - there will always be more events, the main thing is not to get injured in any way. Good luck π₯°
That in itself doesn't sound too bad at all; I guess it all depends how careful you need to be to protect the repair. Give it a shot, but listen carefully to what your body is telling you π
Hi Cmoi and linda9389 . Please put me down for the 10k. I have entered another 10k event that day so hopefully I can use that as my HU Virtual event ππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈ. Itβs going to be an exciting day!
This sounds like fun! I especially liked the idea of making the winner the person who runs closest to a random time... I won't feel any inner pressure then to run fast π
So, I am in to run a 10K π₯³. Thanks for letting us know on this forum, too!
Welcome! We'd love to have you and have added you to the start list. Keep an eye in the Marathon and Race Support forum for further posts π
We do stress that this is an event rather than a race; it's about your chosen distance and not about time; it's an event run for you at your chosen pace along your chosen route.
(I will certainly be running mine slowly as hopefully I will have already run a race the weekend before).
The whole point of this event is to encourage and motivate, and to build a stronger sense of community if we can π So enjoy!!!
Hello Cmoi, please can I have details of the 10k event such as the date - Iβm hoping I have time to build up to it, and how to be put on the list that people are referring to. I donβt seem to be able to find info. I do run regularly but have only run 10k a couple of times recently. Thank you.
Hi Carpediem24 , the date's mentioned in my post - Sunday 14th May, 9.30am, UK time. However if you can't make that, you can run at any other time between Sunday 14th and Sunday 21st May inclusive.
The post from linda9389 - healthunlocked.com/marathon... gives you the other info, and I've added you to the spreadsheet too. π
