Yes... I am here, I have not hibernated, I am just really late!
The weather outside is frightful... and the fire is quite delightful, although I have NOT been sitting by it I have been rushing around a heck of a lot though !
My Quest is not getting off to a great start.. sinus issues laid me low, a road trip to No Wales and back in a day, and then the icy weather arriving have conspired to upend me. BUT. I am keeping up with CBDB 's Advent Resistance Challenge ( with tweaks), and Yoga with Adriene's, December plan...Breathe! I am staying moving although ice does keep me from running.
I have been reading many. of your posts and I do know that unlike me, you ARE getting out there and you ARE running and as ever inspiring all of us.
PLEASE, do let us all know how your Questing is going
It is NOT too late to JOIN us!
If you are a newcomer to Quest, you will find so much unbelievable support here, from our running friends, all at different stages and all hoping to fulfil different targets.
It's only the second of the DECEMBER Quest- so, do, please, feel free to join in with the fun
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I would like to...
********
Each week, I will put up a new post, so we can chat and see how we are all doing!
Wishing you a wonderful week of safe and happy running! 💥Stay SAFE and STAY WARM!
Oldfloss & The Rest of the Team x
P.S.
There is still the opportunity to run Tim's Run. Donations are now at £2,804, really nearing the £3000 mark. Thank you all so much x
What a lovely photo for our quest this week,b it's certainly cold here but not quite that frosty. I've optimistically put my washing outside in there hope it will dry rather than freeze.I've been struggling a bit with enthusiasm to get out but also by having to be at home in case the roofing company who said "yes we'll pop round this week" actually DO turn up. It seems roofers round here are a very elusive and in high demand. I hope they do turn up today 🤞🤞🤞
Well I've also been doing CBDBs resistance band challenge. I'm enjoying seeing what we've got to do each day and working out how I can do it with the equipment that I have.
My other quest is to complete Great Runs 12 runs (or walks) of Christmas. I've just added today's run (my 3rd in the challenge) and must remember to log my dog walk later today.
So apart from the hole in roof all is good. I've even bought my Christmas tree today 🎄🎄😊
A really great workout then...I shall be up in our loft above my studio tomorrow passing down decoration boxes, and two trees... My little fresh one, which was bought from a garden centre and was never supposed to grow ..is 5' and stays outside We put outdoor lights on it
Finally have some downtime to read and browse here on the forum, as well as ponder about my quest.
I’m not doing too badly, but it was again a work-week in which I led on some residentials, and besides getting up early and coming back only very late, they just generally take it out of me. We have healthy buffets but it still disrupts my eating patterns and my exercise regime goes out the window completely.
So where am I at with this first week of my quest?
🔲 2️⃣/3️⃣ run (jeffing intervalls ) 3 times per week? I’ve managed to run last Sunday and Tuesday. So if I count a week from Sunday (also possible as I had run 4 runs last week), and if I manage to get out there for a run tomorrow, I’ll have managed 3 runs. But there are still yellow warnings of ice, so I might feel I need to leave it with those two runs.
🔲 1️⃣/3️⃣ row 3 - 5 times per week? Well I managed one row, but boy was that an intensive progressive interval row!! 40 min of ever increasingly speedy intervals!
🔲 2️⃣/3️⃣ YWA at least 3 times per week? I’ll do the last one tomorrow on Sat. So I should be able to meet this one by tomorrow.
✅ and do the daily Resist-mas challenge? I did manage that. It really helps that here are so short.
So a mixed bag, but not too bad. Thanks for hosting and signposting people to S&F. As you know, we are having quite a bit fun with resistance bands and it’s alternatives over there!
Hello... good to see you and especially with your really busy schedule. You are doing amazingly !
You seem to be getting very close to completing your goals and you are achieving them whilst working so, so hard.
The weather is scuppering me too, and I am so glad to have the challenges on the S and F forum and yes, it is great that they are short and errr, sweet!
I am directing loads of folk across, because there is such a wealth of information there and so many choices, for all of us at all levels... I've sent someone across this morning, and it has given me an idea too!
I hope the rest of the Quest goes well for you, and that the ice gives you, ( and me), a chance to get the runs in !
Thank you! I’m wanderingly reading posts, and in your C25k catch-up corner from last week came across shoes with studs for icy conditions like these. I’m not quite there yet in forking out such money for the few icy weeks we get per week, with additional challenges of desiring 0-drops and wide-toe-box shoes thrown in, but am keeping an eye out for strategies of how to feasibly run the one or other time in this weather. But better be safe and focus on my rowing and S&F.
Thank you so much for signposting runners to the S&F community. The more the merrier.
They are a tad pricey... I saw some in a shop Betws Y Coed , in the sales a while back... I am a great sale hunter!
I must admit, ice really worries me, having fallen once, on black ice, ( not running)...it was dreadful. I am still not overly confident now, even with the gear... I do shy away from it...safe not sorry sounds good to me!
I think folk really need pushing to visit S and F, there is so, so much that is now on there.
Love the way you describe it Floss, no Quest for me this week, I'm just going to run if I can, it's thick frost out there this morning, my weekend off and there's talk of snow, so I'll sit and I'll knit instead, we have a weekend if visitors but I'll only run if the ice melts, Happy questing everyone
It sounds a bit busy to me 😂 one daughter slept on the couch last night and now we are up and being sociable she's snuck into our bed and gone back to sleep, I should have got clothes out before that happened as am thinking a walk might happen but not in PJ's lol it's back to knitting then,
It sounds great to me, and just what families are all about I have this image og you all cosy with your knitting... When the girls were older, there were 7 of us all living in our home then... good job we had plenty of room !
We have thick ice here this morning, so no run for me, a glorious sunrise... red Shepherd's warning though... snow flurries promised for later.
brrrr…I had a cold run yesterday Oldfloss …very refreshing…and cold on the thighs!!
I won some headphones a while ago & with all the car trouble I’ve had lately swapping my things from one car to the other, I lost them…but I just had one last look before I set off on my run & they were there…hiding in the bottom of my work satchel!!! I was so happy!! So I had a little more spring in my step!! xx
Been pretty tough to get a run in in the weather but managed a 7km run today. Speed session too. Icebug shoes to the rescue. I’m learning to trust them and they’ve been brilliant so far. So hopefully more runs to come even if this weather continues, which it looks set to do. Enforced fartlek where it’s really ropey.
But I’m also being safe cos I know an injury will be worse than missing a couple of runs.
Thanks Oldfloss sorry for the late reply. I've been off the forum for a while. Hope your sinuses have cleared up now and well done on keeping up with your resistance training and YWA sessions. My quests on the IC the first week haven't been great.
1) NO - do at least 4 x 20 minute walks in the park - only managed 3 walks as my foot started to hurt too much
2) NO - do 3 x 30 minute sitting in the chair with weights - only did it once
3) NO - do 4 x 30 minute hurt foot yoga sessions - only did it three times
4) YES - have at least one rest day - had 5!
I'm seeing the physio tomorrow for the first time after having injured myself 5 weeks ago. (My foot isn't any better) Hopefully they will set me mandatory exercises to do which will also motivate me to continue with my quests for the rest of the month.
You are very welcome and despite the fact that your running is on hold... you did get those rest days and you are thinking about moving forward to future running, with the support form your Physio and an exercise plan!
That has to be a great goal in itself....
We are all so, so different, but I do know from experienc, of up to 12 weeks on the couch, that having a plan from a good Physio will be helpful to you...
from first to last! (Probably)…haven’t got lost in the snow…just…🤷🏻♀️
So…still slowly working through the NRC10K Plan…finished all the runs in week 3…including a 4 miler…haven’t run that far since August! Since then I’ve gone a bit random…much faffage in the mornings have left me little time, so had a laugh with CB and “First Fartlek Run”, and ,then the “15 minute Run” a few days later. 5 runs since the beginning of December, plus 1 walk.
I’ve been doing my own S&F, little 10 minute sessions on my bed, working on core and legs…but not every day.
Bedtime…hmmmm…any where from 00:30 to 3am…when I got lost in a book 🤦🏻♀️
Your running is definitely going better than mine. An inch of frost and a lot of black ice due to a week below freezing 24 hours every day is scuppering me somewhat. So much for run whatever the weather! I’ve swapped it for more strength training. Take the wins where you can and celebrate them. (Those books are pesky 🤣)
Same here...days and days since I got outside... Catch-Up Corner is going to be interesting later today when I post it! Glorious morning here but -7 and thick frost and black ice! Just hoping my Runniversary run on Saturday happens... ! ( It will,)!
I am inside working each day, thank goodness for the ideas on S and F... to add to my own!
That sounds absolutely wonderful... we have glorious sunshine here but it is frighteningly cold... and even if I could get out, Mr OF is so protective, he wouldn't let me go, bless him!
Hello Oldfloss , thank you for posting such a lovely picture. It is indeed chilly but very beautiful at the same time at the moment.
Well, it turns out that a stumble I took a while back had manifested into proximal hamstring tendinitis which while healed, has laid down some mean old scar tissue which has weakened my right hamstring considerably. It was painful to run any decent distance so I took 2 weeks off (and sulked 🤣) but have seen the physio who has said I can still run 3k three times a week (no hills boo 😒) and he gave me some exercises which I’m doing religiously! So my quest is these 3k runs and the exercises for the next week. I can feel things improving every day, so am very happy with that.
I hope your fire is keeping you nice and toasty when you get the chance to sit by it 😊😊😊.
3K runs sound such the thing...and the exercises your chap has given you. We do have to listen to them... they do get us back on track... has the pain eased now a tad? It sounds to have been very painful .
Your goals for now, sound just right.. stay safe and warm.. I am snuggled up and watching for the first snow flurries! x
Ah thank you - not as bad as it was, so going in the right direction thank goodness! I shall see if we get any snow here, and watch for flurries ❄️ too.
Message received Oldfloss . It has been a busy week socially so I have not been around the forum much. But so far, so good.
⭐️ go to weekly Pilates class
Yes, and I’m pleased to say we’ve been moved to a smaller studio which is warmer, and it’s easier to move into those planks, cat and cow poses.
⭐️ run at least twice a week but try for three.
Well I managed 3 in my 1st week with an easy 2k on Friday 2nd, then my 10k race on Sunday at Southampton Common. Then on Wednesday I ran a 4k with UTS to ease back into it.
⭐️run and volunteer at parkrun which should include festive dress
I did the number checking role at parkrun, and we only had to make one adjustment so that was great. We’ve got a great set of volunteers here and it’s great to have a day off running to get chance to catch up with them.
⭐️ run a 10k race
Done and dusted. A chilly one, but not as chilly as later in the week.
Not at all runny, but I had a lovely evening on Wednesday meeting my sister at RHS Wisley for glow. A full moon, clear sky, and -3C so there was a coating of frost on plants and trees. So magical and a great girly catch up.
This is all sounding so good Dexy5 and I am glad to know that you are okay and still getting out there! I worry when I think I have missed folk or their posts!
Your 10K went really well didn't it!
You have got a fair few targets and I am hoping you will be in Festive dress for that Park Run and that we get a photo please?
That visit to Wisley looks just beautiful... and with the frost too... lucky you.
Stay safe, stay warm and stay running Happy Questing for this next week
Thank you Oldfloss , yes still alive and kicking, and fortunately not suffering from ice and snow like many others. It is mighty chilly though. Sadly we couldn’t get into the Santa dash but I will go to cheer them on this weekend. I will be in fancy dress on Christmas Eve. - photos will follow. There must be another quest week - will go on the search.
