HR spikes

I’ve noticed several times that I’m getting occasional spikes in HR from my Apple Watch while running. These are well over my theoretical HRMax. I have paroxysmal AF but I’m thinking more likely a technical glitch. Any thoughts?

Hi Stentrunner , I have neither any medical qualifications, nor an Apple watch, so am not exactly qualified to reply. However, if the spikes weren't accompanied by any symptoms while running, and you haven't experienced any since, I'd be inclined to call it a technical glitch by the watch.

I can definitely say that the 220 minus age maximum heart rate formula, if that's the one you're using, does not work for me. I'd have been dead several times over if it were accurate!

If you're concerned, get advice from a medical professional.
