Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

A beautiful spring day for Park run here in Western Australia. Some big milestones. A local runner was completing her run down under journey which means she has run 14,080 km around Australia & someone was running their 400th park run. My goal today was to keep between 9.00 and 10.00 min miles. I didn’t quite pull it off today as I took my foot off the gas mile 2 Final time 30:07🙄Boys had a great run. Hubby got 24:23 and no.2 son came in at 21:02.
Fantastic running by all of you. Great that you can do it as a family. I’m looking forward to doing a parkrun this morning with my hairy Cocker daughter . 😀
Currently writing this on a train up to London (not the best day to be heading into Town) but my daughter’s weekly Globe Theatre has started back again this week so no ParkRun for me.
This morning I was back to doing some parkrun tourism. I ran my 110th parkrun and my 40th different parkrun course at Sports Ireland Campus parkrun. It was also my NENDY. It was a beautiful Autumn morning, and the course was a beautiful 2 lap cross country course on the outskirts of Dublin. I’m definitely going to come back and run that again some day when I am fitter. It was tough this morning, the fact that I went out last night to meet a few friends and had a few beers didn’t help. I had to take a couple of walking breaks. My goal was to do it in under 35 mins. My finish time according to my Garmin watch was 34:37 so not too bad. I want to get back to running sub 30 minute 5K’s again. Just 2 more parkrun courses to do in Dublin and I’ll have completed ✔️ them all.
I brought Ruby with me this morning and of course she loved it. Here is a pic of her after her post parkrun refreshment.
Congratulations to you Damien and Ruby on running your 110th parkrun at Sports Ireland Campus parkrun, well not Ruby, she's only run 1 or 2 with you, what a lovely dog she is, I am sure it won't be long until you get a sub 30 minute 5K again.
aww great pic of Ruby and atleast you did get under 35 mins as you wanted. I know we've had several conversations about getting back to form after Covid, and atlast I feel I'm getting there, as Im sure you will too. Last week with my 50th ParkRrun, it was sheer determination that I wanted under 26 mins and showed me that I can do it and get well under, so I just need to change my mindset and do it again consistently.!
This week I had a go at barcode scanning, and although I found it a bit stressful at the beginning with a couple of people being a bit rude, I enjoyed it and think everyne just have a go at volunteering, after all without volunteers ParkRun just wouldn't work would it.
I got up a bit late, felt a bit tired, husband has a bad foot and didn't want to run so I decided I'd do Parkrun on my own.
Googled to see if it was taking place, nothing on the web page so set off. Weird - no signs warning of runners on the path. I got closer...no people either. How come I was the only one who didn't know? Decided I'd run the course on my own, but then thought that I don't really like it that much so went back and did my 5k around the marshes.
A bit miffed. If I knew it wasn't on I'd have appreciated another hour in bed.
So annoying for you Yesletsgo to get to a parkrun and find that is is cancelled, usually on a parkrun's Facebook Page they give you at least 12 hours notice of a cancellation, the exception being if the weather turns nasty around 1 hour before it starts or flooding or in winter snow or ice makes the course impossible to run, there were quite a few cancellations to parkruns in the UK this Saturday but the organisers did warn runners on their Facebook Page, perhaps you forgot to look at that part, anyway you at least ran a (not) parkrun 5K around the marshes, well done.
I had a look at the local web page and googled 'parkrun cancellation' but couldn't find anything, except that the run is cancelled next week as the park is being used for a funfair!
This is the website to check when looking to see if something is cancelled. Unfortunately lots of parkruns were cancelled at the last minute by landowners and RDs this weekend out of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
that is a pain. I must admit I did think they may be called off so was surprised when on our local website and facebook page it said it was going ahead. I volunteered this week as barcode scanner and then ran it on my own as you did, so atleast getting my exercise too!
Good morning! I tried a different location this morning as my usual one had problems with the defib so was cancelled. We did a minute silence to honour the Queen’s passing then applauded and there was a young man celebrating his 18th birthday too so more applause.
This course was a 2 lap one and undulating compared to the other one I’ve been doing. I noticed on lap one that there were two steep short hills and kept that in mind for second lap so I reserved the energy to get up them. I ran with a friend who said she sometimes stops and walks the hills but we did it together and ran the whole way - new course means new pb - 34:44 quite happy with that 😊
Very well done to you and your friend. We could have been running together as I finished in a very similar time. It’s lovely trying out a different parkrun every now and then.
Good afternoon Damien, I ran my 57th parkrun this morning on a new parkrun only 5 miles from where I live, it was Palacerigg Country Parkrun on the south east side of Cumbernauld, that's a town in Central Scotland halfway between Glasgow and Stirling.
The course is all trail except the first 100 metres which is very smooth tar-mac, the first 2 kilometers is slightly downhill, at just under 2.5 km there is a sharp U turn, at that point I can see how many runners are behind me, today my time was 33:04 which is the best time I have had over the last few weeks, especially with my back being sore two weeks ago.
I look forward to hosting your forum in 2 weeks time.
well done great time on new track, good that it’s only 5 miles from you. Enjoy your bike ride tomorrow. Going my usual walk and back in time to see Great North Run on tv.
It was at times a bit challenging Doris8, at least on the harder parts I didn't need to repeat it as it was only 1 lap, the only parkrun I have been where there is only one lap, The Great North Run is on but I'm not sure now if it is still going to be on the television because of the special schedule due to the Queens death.
After a really bad week (for reasons too complicated to go into) and the last 3 attempts at 3k being complete failures I decided I needed a 'reset'. I gave myself 3 rest days and then went to my local Parkrun this morning, my second ever Parkrun. It was a beautiful sunny morning and after a minutes silence we all set off for 2 laps through the woods and round the lake. It was just what I needed and I managed to complete the 5k in 42.06 an improvement of 3 minutes over my last Parkrun. Happy running everyone 😊
Excellent running and very well done on your 2nd parkrun and an improvement of 3 minutes. That is fantastic. So nice that a minute silence was observed. The Queen was so well loved and respected. Although Irish and not living in the UK I had huge respect for Queen Elizabeth. Her visit to Ireland in 2011 was an amazing trip and one that built many bridges of peace across the North and South of Ireland.
hello folks (why has this website stopped putting a capital in the first word?)
Our parkrun decided to go ahead, with the permission of the City Council so long as we didn’t use a PA system. We also decided to have a 1 minute silence before the run and many wore black . I have never known such a quiet group of runners for that and the RD’s brief and it made me proud of our running community.
I’ve got a race tomorrow so I was barcode scanning today. It’s so easy with the volunteer app and I like that job as you can see people’s names and have time to chat with them.
very well done Dexy for volunteering and best of luck tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be a washout here, so I’ll be batch cooking, relaxing and spending time with my family indoors.
Just to let you know Dexy5 that ALL the parkruns in Scotland including the new one at Palacerigg where I ran this morning observed a one minute silence at 9.30 am. I wish you and UpTheStanley good luck on Sunday at the New Forest 10K.
No running at parkrun for a couple of weeks due to long runs, so timekeeping today with eldest kitten. Busier than expected, like others, we held a minutes silence to remember the Queen before the main briefing. Most were wearing fairly muted colours today, lots of 25 and 100 milestone shirts.
Thanks for losing my reply HU website, I don’t mind writing it again (said no one ever). Here’s take 2 🙄
Checked PR cancellations website last night, and Severn Bridge was on, so picked Jenny up nice and early. Set satnav to get the best route, only to discover the bridge is closed and the diversion over the M4 Prince of Wales bridge takes an additional 25 minutes. 😳 Just made it! 🙏🏻
Funny how their FB page didn’t mention that, and it probably accounted for the lowish turnout. It did request that we wear black if possible, and there’d be a minute’s silence 💔
I’d only run once since last week’s PR - a slow 3k - as I’ve had a back twinge. No pain today, but my legs were like jelly! My time was 36:54. Fine in the circumstances. It was as still as I’ve ever experienced it - 7.2kph wind which is virtually unheard of on the exposed bridge! It was airless and humid. Jenny ran it in 28:36 and cheered me in. 😀
We stopped on the way home for coffee, Egg McMuffins and hash browns. Our guilty pleasures! 😋

I took myself out for a 5k trot this morning. It was quite promising when I set out; a bit overcast and just cool enough to warrant long sleeves. I decided to up the pace slightly and managed 5.1 k in 32:35. I headed off for a well earned flat white/brownie, feeling pretty satisfied. Then the rain struck. It was of the really fine driving variety…soaks you through in no time at all. It rained all the way home. So, two soakings in two runs! Just signs of the onset of autumn I guess. I will be in leggings soon at this rate! ☔️☔️☔️
Very well done on your (not)parkrun. Great running. I got soaked a few times last week. Thank goodness it was a lovely day here today. I managed to get a few jobs done in the garden.
PR no.31 today. I was at my home PR in Lowestoft today. I normally park up on the roadside about 1km from the start but when I did that today, the heavens opened! It didn’t look like it was going to stop quickly so I decided to drive off again and parked in the car park next to the start. A bit lazy I know but I really didn’t fancy starting off soaked through! We started with a minute silence which everyone observed beautifully and respectfully. All that could be heard was the sea and thankfully the rain had stopped by this point. A good portion of the crowd (myself included) were wearing black. I felt a lot more comfortable running this week compared to last week. The cooler weather had a lot to do with that I think. The sun did come out for the second lap and it did suddenly feel a lot warmer. I finished in 37:41 and 348th out of 383. I’ve got a couple of tourist PRs planned for the next few weeks as I’m rather keen to get some Fibonacci numbers under my belt!
Very well done on your parkrun and so lovely that there was such respect for the minutes silence. Great running and enjoy your parkrun tourism over the coming weeks.
Hi damienair - today, I finally made it to Parkrun #50 ( healthunlocked.com/couchto5... ) at Meadowmill who, by some strange coincidence, were celebrating their 100th run.
The weather, surprisingly given the forecast was pretty much perfect, and the event was enjoyed by a larger than average turnout.
My time today was 27:49 (compared with 36:45 back when I ran my first Parkrun in May 2019) .
So, that's my second landmark ticked off, next target, Parkrun #100...
ah brilliant. Huge congratulations to you on your 50th parkrun milestone. That’s a great achievement. And very well done too on your great finish time. I want to get back to sub 28 minute finish times in 2023.
I was at Portobello in Edinburgh for the first time today. It was their 300th Parkrun and my 30th. I wore black. It is a three loop run round a pond and beside a burn. It was fairly flat, just the odd slope. Very pretty, I'll go back and walk through the park sometime, I've never been there before. Pleased with my time of 31m 08. I run with some of my family, a couple of them were about 9 minutes quicker than me !! But they are more than half my age😊. This is one of my favourite parkruns.
It's a nice spot, but the three laps puts me off it a little.
In terms of local Parkrun, I've done Vogrie, Meadowmill, Portobello, Lochend Woods (Dunbar) and Oriam (Heriot-Watt Uni). Still to do Cramond and Hollyrood Park, although I have done the latter as Race for Life back in June 2019.
Cramond is dead flat but it can be windy. Its an out and back.I've done Holyrood once it's a loop. Vertical for the first 2.5k! But very picturesque, I was too tired to appreciate the views. 🤣
Here I am in the middle, in respectful black, setting off at my home run, Mote Park. For a lot of the run I was chasing a guy in a Union Jack vest with a mohican! Should have gone to nearby Malling instead where Dame Kelly Holmes took part and my friend got a photo with her.
our Parkrun was on. I did the course check; not too bad, few tree branches to clear, a few bottles to bin, the odd small hole to report and a bit damp all round. We also did a minutes silence and many wore black. Several had done the big half run the week before and their tee shirt was black, uncanny timing . Wasn’t going for a fast time, still doing heart rate training, so came in at 35:04. I was first in my age group (out of one, so last too!!) Looking forward to a less emotional run next week.
Very well done on your parkrun. I was in around the same time. Not that I was taking it easy. I just couldn’t go any faster 😀
I did a different local PR that I completed in around 40 mins last Dec. Yesterday I got my fastest time so far for any 5 k and I came in under 35 mins. So chuffed especially as there was an incline. I knocked a minute off my usual course time which is really flat! Sometimes it helps not to look at my watch because I wasnt aware until I finished. My nephew who I introduced to PR but lives aboard came 2nd too!
My parkrun was cancelled at the request of the landowner (Leicestershire County Council). Instead I decided to do "Ride and Stride" which is a sponsored event where you visit as many churches as you can in aid of Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust. You do this either by walking or biking. I took my bike around the countryside and rode 50 miles - something I'm not used to. Felt exhausted at the end but I think it must be good for me to do some cross training.
We observed a minute's silence too at Wycombe Rye and then my friend and I ran our 50th parkruns 😀 The front runners coming back the other way called out to us encouragingly and it was just great to hit that milestone. Time was 32:51, a minute off my best this year (31:52) and 3 minutes off my PB (29:55), but happy nonetheless 😊
A rare missed parkrun day for me. I was travelling at the time. Many venues were cancelled this weekend due to local council requests or National Trust requests, or because the organisers themselves decided it wasn't appropriate under the circumstances.
I know my two usual haunts hadn't cancelled. My own reasons for not running this week are more personal. I've not been well. The week before last had been exceptionally disrupted (including an overnight stay accompanying a relative in A&E) and I got a bit run down.
This came to a head a few hours after my speed run on Monday evening, when I got painful stomach cramps. It looks like I've had some sort of GI tract infection. The watch picked it up too in the "stress" and sleep tracking values. Herself had similar a few days later.
Running jiggles the tummy a lot and restricts its blood supply, and even in the best of health can have a laxative effect on some of us, so it was off the schedule. I'd planned to travel on Friday to visit my parents and go to the Pwllheli parkrun on Saturday. However, Herself was still a bit too fragile on the Friday afternoon for a car ride along bumpy country B roads, so we travelled on the Saturday morning.
In retrospect, an extra rest day has probably done me good. The watch says I had a good sleep last night, the best in several weeks. The tide was fully in at Pwllheli, which makes it extremely challenging, possibly not the best way to restart running after a break!
