NRC Hill Repeat (on the Treadmill)

Well, it snowed last night , and with freezing temperatures forcast for this morning I made the decision last night that today's run would be on the Treadmill 😁

I really didn't fancy getting out of a nice warm bed, and going out in freezing temperatures for my hill repeat run

So, instead, out of bed, Dynamics done ,

5 min warm up walk , set treadmill incline and off we go and I didn't even need to leave the bedroom 😁

This was an NRC Run , and all part of my plan to get back into the habit of 1. Running more frequently and 2. Mixing my runs up again which is something I always used to do and i know it works !

I have avoided hill workouts previously but now it's time (infact well overdue) to embrace them and a steady treadmill incline was a perfect start !

The paces (or efforts) were 45 seconds at 10k pace and recover, then 15 seconfs at Best pace .

Repeat this series 5 times !

It was tough!

And the only downside is it takes a little too long for the treadmill to wind up .

Nothing major but I would have got to pace quicker had I been outside , so this made the timings a little off the mark but close enough !

So, it was just a 21 minutes work out , but completed successfully without going out in the freezing temperatures 😁

Only problem is Garmin data is looking like nonsense and of course Garmin pace is just an average which includes recovery times at a slow jog or quick walk .

But I'm happy to go by perceived effort as always 😁

Stretches done, porridge eaten and now for a relaxing bath before work !

Happy running! 😁

Well done you! Don’t blame you for not wanting to go out in the snow, very sensible using the TM. You’re really racking up the NRC runs, it’s great seeing them ticked off, I need to do some different ones but I can never decide. Hope the porridge was good and drive carefully! 😊

Thanks Kate !I certainly prefer to run outside but I have quite a specific weather preference 🀣

And yes, some good NRC runs to mix things up 😁

It's snowing here at the moment, and I'm seriously contemplating doing a run outside at lunchtime in the cold. (6Β°C actual/feels like 1Β°C).

It was -1 at my run time so that made up my mind 😁

We had snow too!!! first snow we’ve seen this winter, and it came down thick and fast for all of 5 minutes it was 6 degrees outside so i don’t know how that works but when I checked facebook the feed was full of it’s snowing posts by local people so we didn’t imagine it 😊I always love to see snow photos here as it just hasn’t happened for last few years here

The benefit of the treadmill eh? !😁. I got home from work, too tired to run.... and it was snowing. Kept seeing the treadmill out of the corner of my eye so in the end thought "oh go on then "... only 20 minutes but better than 20 minutes on my backside !

Good plan! A run on a cosy indoor treadmill. I have to say that sudden cold weather at this time of year is a bit of a shock! Snowing on and off here and not sure I'll run tomorrow!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Roxdog

Certainly IS a bit of a shock !My last run was shorts and t-shirt πŸ€”

Sounds like the dreadmill is working well for you

I fully intended to run first thing this morning- even setting my cold weather kit out last night, but the reality of running in the howling wind and snow made my warm cosy bed way to comfy this morning.

I had to make do with a short walk in my slightly curtailed lunchbreak instead. The wind as I crossed the fields was ridiculous.

At least I got some more steps in for my charity step challenge.

Yes thanks , so far so good !I will always prefer outside running but my weather preference window is quite narrow 😁

So the treadmill certainly comes in handy 😁

Well done with your step challenge πŸ‘

So I have a treadmill, only use it for my non run days for a speed walk before my weight training.. You say your Garmin recorded your run?

I didn't think it would, without GPS signal?

I did run on it once last year with my backdoor open (it's near thus door) it did recognise my run.. but in your bedroom?

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to sparky66

Yes, my Garmin (45s) has a treadmill option .GPS is disabled when the treadmill function is selected and the

Accelerometers within the watch calculate the distance covered based upon your stride length, stride frequency, and arm swing.

It can also be calibrated for treadmill use

And well done 🌟

I've just got my trusty 220 forerunner, probably need an update, πŸ˜…

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to sparky66

The 220 can be used on a treadmill πŸ‘

sparky66Graduate10 in reply to Instructor57

Brilliant thanks, I might just have to give it a try, especially if this icy cold, snowy weather keeps up πŸ™„
