A 'Born to run' Sunday morning Sunny 6K πŸ˜πŸƒπŸŒž

A Curious title ?

No, not really!

I downloaded the audio book 'Born to run' following the mention of it in the video posted yesterday by nowster .

It was available for free as part of the 'Amazon Audible' free trial promotion so I thought it might be a good listen on my run !

I won't go into details here other than to say it's a good listen and would certainly recommend it 😁

It was a dry and bright morning at 4 degrees when I went out at 08:30 but with a chilly easterly breeze !

I had my running tights but just 1 layer on top with my zip Thermo top!

This felt chilly on the warm-up but i knew it would be perfect when running .

I was hoping to go a little further than 5k today , maybe a 6 .

With this in mind I set off nice and slow and was feeling comfortable.

It's amazing with just a small reduction in pace how I instinctively felt it would be more sustainable (not that I'm ever quick!, I have no interest in that)

I soon reached temperature at around 1K at which point the cooling easterly breeze was welcome as I continued along my usual route .

At around 3K I was surprised to see what must have been an escaped Gazelle running towards me 😁

Or in other words , a lone young female runner in all the flashy gear and wrap around sunglasses heading my way with her music on so loud and at a pace that I swear caused a Doppler effect as she passed me 🀣

Ahh well, I continue at my Conversational pace 😁

Coming up to almost 5K I see a group of around 7 or 8 runners split into two heading towards me !

There is a local C25k group recently started in the village 😁

They turn right and I turn left into the same road , they are slightly ahead of me.

My cruise control must be set ever so slightly higher than theirs as I notice im gently closing in on them .

I continue at the same pace .

I become level with them at exactly 5K and exchange a few words as I slowly pass them .

This is the most runners I have ever seen while I'm out .

I turn right into another road and they follow me .

At the end of the road I turn to see where they are and notice they are on a walking section , I'm not sure what week they are on .

I carry on to complete my 6K run then walk home to do my stretches and have my porridge.

Misty joins me to do my stretches 😁🐱

Big mug of tea downed , now a relaxing bath and a quiet day watching the First F1 race of the season this afternoon.

Happy running!

I really enjoyed Born to Run, although it hasn't convinced me to start going around without my shoes on 😊😊😊

Yes, it's interesting! Not sure if I could go through the transition though and how much it would benefit me at this stage !

I transitioned to barefoot shoes at age 43, but that was all walking at that point. I didn't start running until 2020, aged 51.

Bravo! That sounds a well paced and very satisfying 6k - and on another beautiful morning. How wonderful that there’s a local c25k group. Maybe the Doppler runner was confused by the F1?

Yes, I really enjoyed it !Felt like I could have gone on but decided to stay sensible 😁

In yesterday's parkrun when we were lapped by a Gazelle I wondered to another runner alongside me as to how they made it look so blooming effortless.

Yes, this one appeared to be floating just above the ground 🀣

I love the book..especially since I don't wear shoes or socks most of the time.I do for running, although, when I ran when younger..for the County. I did not...A spike through my foot from the shoe of an over pushy opponent put me off.

Great run, you!

Thanks for the lovely post.I see many gazelle like runners and wish .... But then I remind myself that they are at least half my age and wonder if they'll still be running in their 60s πŸ˜‚

Thanks for the book recommendation too

Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to dijep

Absolutely !I'm 65 , started at 63, so shouldn't complain 😁

Must give Born to Run a go, thanks for the tip! And well done on a really good run today. That’s fun to see a C25K group doing their stuff, and even more fun from a cruise control perspective πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ. My colleague joined a similar group where she lives but she pulled her Achilles doing it 😣. From what she said, they were trying to get them to go too fast. I guess not all C25Ks are created equal! I don’t think my stretching would be as good as Misty’s. 🀣.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Frenc

Yes, I think it's going to be a good book πŸ‘I spotted the C25K group on a local FB post a few weeks ago but it's the first time our paths have crossed , I think there's about a dozen in the group .

If I get opportunity I will mention the forum to them .

Yes, Misty had been out most of the night and came in to stretch with me !

She's now having a lazy afternoon 😁

That all sounds good, I thought you meant a real gazelle for a second though, must have been the escaped bit. Spring has sprung round here and i’ve been walking in shorts! I too enjoyed Born to run πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ it’s a popular book

Instructor57 profile image

Yes it's a good book , and great to hear it while running 😁And you were meant to think it was a real gazelle 🀣

What a great run for you today! It sounds nice and relaxed on such a beautiful day and you're really back it seems!I started the book, but during the pandemic have found it difficult to complete any book I start. I might try to finish it when I retire!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Roxdog

Thanks, yes it felt relaxed which was good! And it's the first time I have tried an audio book ! It should last for several more runs 😁

I loved your post, Instructor57! My Sunday is over but I’d like a redo and would do it like you - slow easy run (including gazelle spotting!), porridge, bath, stretching…sounds perfect. Enjoy the week ahead!

Not sure how I missed this Instructor57 , but very well done! πŸ‘Reaching 6k is a fantastic achievement and a far from shoddy pace too.

Oh I just ignore those gazelles - they are from another planet.

I had that book in paperback as a birthday present after graduating C25K. It's a brilliant read.

Doppler effect ha ha! 🀣

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Ha, I often find posts that I'd missed 😁Yes it's nice to get over the 5K again .

Just looked on Strava earlier and it was end of July I think when I got a 14K in (9 miles) , it was then metaphorically down hill from that point with one problem or another .

I've a lot of catching up to do 😁

And yes, Doppler girl just needed blue strobe lights 🀣🀣🀣
