Hi I’m so pleased to have managed to reach the 10k distance and I’ll book a run for November to try out that 10k in a race. I’m slow so it’s more about having a goal. But knowing me I need to have a new goal beside the race. What do you do? I’m going for a speed training once a week now as I’m slow and steady but I wonder if I build up more mileage on my long run would that also help. I’ve no desire to do half marathons but just wondered what other people did and thanks in advance! Hoarding the blackberries pic when I’m walking the dog!

10 k done what’s next?
Well done!
I’m going for speed training right now, with a garmin plan. It’s actually a mix of running different distances and paces, steady paces, tempos, and intervals. It promises to make me quicker at the end of it.
I find it both challenging and motivating to attempt different runs in a set plan as, up till this time, I’ve simply gone out at more or less the same pace and just added little increases in distance.
I am a very slow runner, and one who has to take good care of her knees. So I decided my own 10k consolidation plan, and I just finished the first week.
So it might give you some inspiration , but as you will see I love exploring running apps as well! 🤣🤣
I myself am slowly working up to 10 miles (16.1 km). Don't know why, just want to be able to say I did a ten miler. What I will do after, I don't know. Maybe just keep it at that. Do 2x 10K, 1x 13K and 1X16K every month. I don't know yet...
Once I hit 10km I kept going with the weekly increases, at about 10% per week. I got to 18km before I hit several setbacks. A few months later I reached a half marathon (21.2km) distance.
Depends what you want! I describe myself as allergic to training plans, and have never tried any coached, guided runs either.
Always thought I'd prefer shorter, faster runs, but no, what I enjoy is longer runs on hilly trails. I did my own thing up to metric marathon, though once I'd signed up to a trail marathon I forced myself to follow a training plan.
So there's no fixed rules, you have to find what suits you. Happy running!
