Today was overcast and humid and at 6 a.m. the forecast was rain within the hour. Quickly is not something I can always do at that time of the day, but I finished my cuppa fairly smartish and got on with the business of getting ready as quietly as I could! My brother would be getting up soon, so if I wanted to avoid the chitter chatter I needed to be gone.
Shorts and t-shirt, headphones, sports glasses, wrist cuff for key and trademark sun visor, mobile and watch synced and Iβm ready with minimal faffing about. Quick look in the mirror, of course. Yes, pretty gorgeous even though itβs early; my hair is only sticking out in one or two places as it needs cutting π
Quietly leave the house and start my warm up walk. Pants! Iβve forgotten my leg swings, so stop to do them in the street. I just donβt care π
I had already programmed into the Garmin the workout that Iβm going to follow; the same as last week. I now know that once the workout has finished, my watch will keep on going until I stop the run. This fooled me last week as I had thought it would stop automatically.
I start the workout. Iβm running for 45 seconds, walking for 30 seconds. I noticed that last week, my first running interval was far too slow, so I try and run at a reasonable pace.
The run carries on and I realised that Iβm working a bit harder than I had intended. It must be due to the humidity and the air quality, which was only βfairβ. I follow my normal route, running and walking. I can swipe the watch face to see how many kms I have run and how long I have been running for. I hadnβt realised I could do this, so it was a bit of an βaha!β moment! My workout just carries on in the background and still alerts me when I need to run or walk. I can swipe between the two.
I see a number of familiar faces on this run and everybody greets me, now itβs more like βHi!β rather than βGood morningβ. Runners of all shapes and sizes, men and women. There is a little traffic, but not much and Iβm able to run on the road for most of the time, although I have to take care with parked cars. Itβs very built up here. The Red Kites were calling early this morning, I heard them before I left the house. I saw them all the way round my circular route and occasionally noticed other birds panicking to get out of their line of sight when they were flying lower. They do occasionally take out smaller birds if theyβre hungry.
Towards the end I reach a T junction and decide to turn left for the 4K as Iβm tiring. As I approach my Dadβs house, I decide to run through the last walking break, leading me to the downhill section. I havenβt got enough left in the tank to speed up much, but I pull out a stop or two! I notice when I reach 30 minutes but carry on a few more seconds for the 4K.
Done and dusted, home for coffee and stretches! Iβm pleased that I beat the rain, but after a while I realise that the rain didnβt materialise anyway! My brotherβs up and having breakfast, so thereβs even time for a bit of chitter chatter ππββοΈπ
