I graduated in March and I’ve been consolidating for three weeks, I’m trying to make sure I get enough variety in what I’m doing - so I don’t get bored so I’ve been running different routes, trying out some hills - which I quite like doing and using NRC and today I tried Fartlek... that was fun.
I do two shorter runs in a week and one longer run (increasing a little each week), attempting to run for 60minutes first is my goal and then I’m keen to start the magic plan to 10K.
I’ve signed up to the park runs so looking forward to doing those too. 😊
Have a great day!

Yo! Glad is going well and you’re enjoying it, I am on my second week and only done 2 consolidation runs so far as I got a nasty injury in my foot don’t even know what it is 😳😳😳 I really want to go for a run but this bloody foot 🤬🤬🤬🤬
We are all open now on the isle of man so I can go but don’t really know where? Like at a gp or a sports clinic etc? I might go because I honestly can’t run anymore 😭😭😭😭
I’m not very knowledgable on things like this but if I felt it was bad enough and I couldn’t manage it at home then I’d get in contact with my GP or the NHS number and see what they recommend. I suppose they can always refer you if needed, or recommend a physio etc. Before I started the CT5K I was doing you tube videos of running in the spot, one day I did something really bad to the top of my foot - I’m sure I broke some little bones and it went a bit black and swelled up... had a limp for about 6 weeks but after than it was fine...... so maybe don’t take any advice from me because my head has to be hanging off before I’d go to the doctors! 😒
Sublime consolidation runs SassyF , sounds like that variety is doing great for you 👍, it's okay at this point to simply enjoy yourself, I used the magic plan and dipped in and out of it, and generally went with the..... What i felt like I did 👌, but always trying to remember that 10% increase non either distance or time. rest days still meant resting 🤓 keep on at it
Thanks Hidden , I think I’m kinda already doing the timed plan (in a round about way) but having that as a guide will help I’m sure. I’m enjoying the freedom of deciding what I want to do on each run day! Useful to hear that you also dipped in and out of the plan, cheers. 😎
I do really need to do some strength & flex work, I tried the yoga - but it wasn’t for me, I kept forgetting to do it and spent too long watching the TV and forgetting that I was meant to be doing it instead of just watching Adrienne! 😒I’ll maybe try it again and apply myself this time - thanks for the nudge! 👌🏼
See me just standing there gawping at her doing a crow 😱 The dog is pretty cute though!
Lovely post SassyF, glad you are enjoying consolidation, sounds like you are having a great time. 😁. I love NRC as it gives us do much choice. I have typed out a list of all the runs and am enjoying ticking the off one by one ( nerd warning)!! Unfortunately I am in trouble with my knee. Going to post about it 😢
Hey Hidden ! Yeah don’t get me wrong I still have days where it most definitely is not all ‘peaches & cream’ and I struggle to settle into a run, but I’m getting better at trying to block the gremlins out by trying different things & different routes. I don’t always use the NRC these days - sometimes I don’t want the voice in my ear. But hey, every day is different and there’s definitely plenty of choice on there so I’m glad it’s working for you! 👍🏼
I’ll look out for your post about your knee, doesn’t sound good. Hope you’re ok? 😕
Have you got the Nike run club app? It has guided runs on there which might help fill the gap you’re feeling from the CT5K app. Some people like them, but it’s not for everyone.
I’m sure there’s posts on here about Fartlek that could explain better than I can, but my understanding of it is it’s ‘speed play’ so you do a run but then do periods of faster running at different pace levels at different times during the run, I used the NRC app for it because I’d never done it before but it was fun to do and I’ll definitely do it again. 😊
Hey Beastie_MCCXIX , yeah I do use NRC but not for every run, I just pick what I want to do if I want a guided run or just use it to track distance of I’m not using map my run. I don’t like the thought provoking runs on NRC with all the questions, so I try to avoid those, but that’s just me.
Did a 6k this morning, which went well. So far so good! 😎
