Frosty 10K! โ„๏ธ

I postponed my usual Saturday run yesterday as I woke up to freezing fog here in the fens. No thank you! Made a cuppa and went back to bed ๐Ÿ‘

This morning it looked much better, just about 0 degrees but bright. I could see it was frosty. Went outside in my dressing gown to check how slippery it was and decided it might be in places, but was mostly OK.

Dressed for the weather with short sleeved tee shirt, new Proviz long sleeved tee shirt, running tights, neck buff and another buff round my ears. And gloves! Left the house, nope - still too cold, so went back inside and popped on my windproof jacket, too. Thatโ€™s better! Off I go. Warm up walk done and photo taken.

I decided to run for 10K. Iโ€™m listening to โ€˜A 10K Runโ€™ from the Nike Run Club app. I start the run and Iโ€™m annoyed because Iโ€™ve listened to this one quite recently, but Iโ€™m running now and decide not to change it. Itโ€™s a good one anyway, I like all the Coach Bennett guided runs.

I start easy and relaxed, running out of the village. The frost is quite heavy, but the roads arenโ€™t too bad, I can see the frozen puddles and easily avoid them. Being a Sunday, itโ€™s very quiet indeed, no traffic at all. Wonderful! I pass the rookeries and hear the familiar calls; we have quite a few of them in the taller trees in the village. I can hear Whooper swans, but they are too far away to see this morning. I notice a mute swan family sitting quietly on the banks of the old Croft River, which is full of pondweed.

I turn onto the rural part of this loop and encounter a slight headwind. That wind is cold! I soldier on. The road is a single track and very quiet indeed today, but it is a little slippery so I take care. My pace is ebbing and flowing as I like it to now on my longer runs. It feels comfortable and I have a sense of gradually increasing pace as my body warms up.

Coming out of the lane and running back towards the village, I concentrate on my form. I feel Iโ€™m running well and enjoying it. I like running when itโ€™s cold! I turn up the Deadend Track and back again and start my last km heading into the village. Pull out a few stops to finish strong. No records broken, but a lovely run to set me up for the day. Home, stretches and coffee! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธโ„๏ธ โ˜•๏ธ

First km split the slowest at 8:25

Last km split the fastest at 7:02

I loved reading that. Sounds like you had a bit of soul food this morning ๐ŸคฉI hope to be able to manage runs that are that long one day.

I am currently having to self isolate due to an NHS app notification, and not being able to get out running is driving me mad, not least that I had 2 runs until I graduated the C25K when I got notified ๐Ÿ˜–

Your report has made me feel a lot better. Have a lovely day and enjoy your coffee ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐโ˜•

Iโ€™m sorry you are having to self isolate! Running will be waiting for you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

You will be able to do anything you want! Building up your endurance just happens if you keep on putting those running miles on your legs. I just slowly increased the time spent running on my weekend run after I graduated and before I knew it, 10K just happened! My 10K runs donโ€™t break any speed records ๐Ÿ˜Š but I love them. And of course once you get to 10k you realise that it opens the door to longer distances, too! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

Another great post and run from you. Glad you beat those pesky gremlins from yesterday. Stay safe and away from those icy bitsโ„๏ธ

Who would have thought it! I never thought Iโ€™d be able to run that far, even slowly, and here I am, chalking them up without a second thought ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sounds a fabulous run! How brilliant to just casually go out and run 10km. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I know! I still canโ€™t quite believe it. My aim originally was to be able to run for 5K! I did that in August and kind of carried on ๐Ÿ˜Š. Now I run 10K because I can, but I also use it as part of my training for longer distances. Push on a bit further one week, then drop back to 10k the next.

LottieMW profile image

Iโ€™m working my way towards 10km...ran my 60 minutes on NYEve โ˜บ๏ธWere you fit before starting C25k?

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to LottieMW

Not particularly. I was walking a couple of times a week and working in the garden, nothing strenuous. Never done any running before starting c25K!

Well done for your 60 minutes! It wonโ€™t be long before you get to 10K. Then youโ€™ll start to think โ€˜Mmmm. What next? Maybe 10 milesโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜Š

I hope weโ€™re out of lockdown by then! My roads arenโ€™t fun...๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I hope so, too! Although Iโ€™m fortunate, as long as they donโ€™t change the rules. I have a lovely 10 mile circular route that starts near my front door.

LottieMW profile image
LottieMWAmbassador in reply to Jools2020

Relatively level too, Iโ€™m guessing. My lovely levelish routes are all a car drive away...and are likely to be busy โ˜น๏ธ

Yes, flat - in the fens! Iโ€™m actually stating to wish I had least one hill! Theyโ€™re good for endurance ๐Ÿ˜Š
