Just wondering if anyone has convinced others into the c25k programme. So far, my tally is two! (Two and a half really - hubby working his way through it). Both people have completed it and both running regularly now.
Just thinking if everyone on the forum convinced even one person, it would have such an impact on national health!

I do know a man in my Thursday walking club that gave up two times at week 4, if you can complete weeks 4 and especially week 5 most runners will complete the program.
Totally agree with you here, Alan. That was crunch time for me around week 4 or five. The only reason I continued was because I knew a colleague in work was going to ask me about it, I was too embarrassed to have to tell her that I failed!!
Quite a few people have started it after seeing my success however no one has stuck to it. One person did complete it but then stop. The rest just stopped mid programme. Iβd say about 10 people.
Thatβs interesting that people started and then stopped, I found that midway mark very tough mentally in the c25k programme. Ten though is pretty impressive on your part!
I have tried. I posted the link into my work teams group chat (we all still work from home) and told them all how I was going. They were impressed but no one else took it up. It has inspired my husband to think he will start running again when we retire in a couple of months. He actually was a good runner but gave it away about 20 years ago when he had foot issues. My daughter also downloaded a c25k app (not NHS as not available in Australia) but hasnβt started yet. So, for now I continue to run 3 times a week on my own. My fitness has improved but gee I wish I would lose some weight with it like I used to when I was running in my 30βs and 40βs.
Sounds like youβre planting a few seeds in terms of recruitment! Weight is an interesting one - you should also try getting measured at various parts of your body and see if you tone up. I finished c25k in January and whilst I donβt think Iβve lost weight (I havenβt changed my diet) but Iβve lost over 9 inches overall.
Great post! Yes I have encouraged people to have a go after seeing me go through it. 5 people so far and they all still run. They have all reached 10k too and beyond. One did a HM a few weeks ago too which was ace. πππ Now they have started to encourage it to others. Ripples πππ
An ex work colleague who I keep in regular contact with was inspired by my endeavours and started C25K . She graduated in August and is still running regularly.
Hi there, I post it on the work chat when I started (mainly to keep me accountable to someone!) During WFH.
2 colleagues (there were only7of us in the company then !) joined me and completed C25K but didn't continue as they then were able to revert to some their pre Covid fitness activities.
I've not convinced anyone to start c25k. People see me running or know that I run and they say ' oh I can't run ' . I tell them neither could I but there is an amazing plan called c25k and the most amazing forum that runs along side it.
Also Buddy34 there was that person who actually asked you to stop running as she thought it was bad for your health, I remember that post from you a few months ago, you also thought she would ask you to start smoking again, really, you are now more healthy than her by a mile, or should I say Half Marathon as you have ever been, I know you will never go back to smoking.
Buddy, you were one of the first people to encourage me on the forum and yours was the first profile that I read. Bug influence in me continuing with the programme. You have been a great influencer and encourager.
Good question. I was recruited by someone who never completed it. I recruited 2, 1 who gave up when being pregnant made it difficult and one who is the wonderful Oldgirlruns . She has been running around 18 months and has run 10k.
If we each have one success story, how much healthier will our country be?
I also told my GP how brilliant it is as I came off hypertension meds. She is now promoting it.
I hope so. I have seen a note on their surgery newsletter about C25k.
There are certainly more people running since lockdown so I think the plan is getting more well known in general as the BBC promote it.
I have two friends who have started C25k on my recommendation - probably in an attempt to stop me going on about how wonderful it is! One friend is half way through and the other recruited her daughter to do it with her and this week is their week 9, the next run is the big one π. So I guess in a roundabout way I can claim 3 new recruits. Iβm currently working on persuading my own teenage daughter to start.....
Yay! Well done Leosmit ...I have recruited one other person...and she does it on and off....more off than on! But she enjoys it when she does it...she was there when I did my graduation run and was cheering me from across the park!! I'm not sure she ever graduated so not sure if that counts??
I'm sure that most of us have inspired someone to take up running, someone who maybe saw us from the bus...or out of there car...or when we're zooming passed them (yeah I know, it's not a zoom) you never know who you've inspired to get their trainers on x
Talking about zooming past, when I was doing C25K, it was run 2 of week 9, I ran past 3 people and they shouted at me that "I was running too fast", perhaps to them I looked as if I was running too fast, later on in that 30 minute run, just as I was finishing, I passed 3 boys they offered me a piece of cake which I refused.
Altogether in all the runs I have ran I have had 4 people shouting at me, wishing me well on my running, run 3 of week 5, run 3 of week 9, my so far only 10 miles run, at 10K on that run, a mother and 2 children applauded me as I passed them, the 4th time that someone said 'your doing well' was when I was running my 18th not parkrun. π ππΎ
Thatβs brilliant AlMorr ...Iβve had people say encouraging things to me too, itβs a right boost!! No negative comments here so far either...your will power sounds better than mine though, I mightβve stopped for a price of cake!! π€£π€£ x
Iβve tried Leosmit ! So far Iβve got 2 who are interested but havenβt yet started and one who would like to but is prone to shin splints whoβs wary of making them worse! I continue to try and persuade them all!
