I have been really lucky in that when I look back over the time since February when I began running, I don't seem to have run in the rain. So, I don't really know what I should wear. Do I wear a base layer and just get wet or is there something I should get that will help me to stay dryish and still feel more comfortable. I would be so happy for any suggestions. Thank you.

What do I wear?
Everyone is different. I love just getting wet . Tried a running jacket once and felt as if I was cooking 😊
Hello it’s always a great conundrum for me, I tend to just run in a top that has moisture wicking. As it gets colder and sleet or snow forecast I then put a jacket on again with moisture wicking.
Hope that helps
I have a gillet that I wear over a long sleeve technical top if it's chilly. Through the worst bits of winter last year I did wear a waterproof coat if it was raining. But if it was dry I found keeping my hands, head and neck warm were more important
👋🏻 check is out!! Still running 🏃🏻♀️
I’ve wondered about clothing and will watch the replies. I’ve a long sleeved top and I don’t mind getting wet but I don’t want to be hot and have to take layers off. It’s all a little confusing.
Well hello! Good to see we're both keeping running. I love this forum- so many experienced runners with loads of advice. Really helpful.
I’ve only just joined this one, 10k seems impossible but then I though 5k was in March 🤷🏻♀️
I'm just doing JuJu's magic plan. I've decided to go for the length of time I can run rather than distance. So aiming to build my stamina through the winter and then try to work on distance, technique and all that malarkey later. All I know is I love going out for a run and feel so glad I started this. How are uou doing?
Who is JuJu and where is the magic plan?
Currently too focused on time and to keep getting the 5k under 30 which I’m doing. Maybe I need to refocus on distance?
I think I have a shin splint 🙄 investigating new trainers. I think I’m quite heavy footed too
I’m trying to research clothing for winter as I don’t want to not run but want to be prepared for it
Google the juju thing it comes straight up. I think lots of people on this forum are following it. It's great you can do 5k so well now. Still takes me longer than half an hour but I'm not too concerned. Let me know what you think about the magic plan
8 weeks???? 10k???? Jeez pass the wine while I take that in.
The 5k has been great, I’ve got a route that I know so don’t need to think about what KM I’m on. I know the finish point and turn the music up. There have been a couple of just over 30 minutes but it’s still 5k
A run is a run and I enjoy it regardless of how competitive I am with myself which is a very new feeling for me 🙃
I find wind is a more important consideration than rain. I look at the ‘real feel’ temperature and dress for 6-8 degrees warmer. I will use layers when it’s cold (specifically merino wool base layers) but I never wear waterproofing. I would feel differently if I was running somewhere the conditions could change.
Winter running is great. I’d almost prefer it to being too hot 🥵 in the summer. Although I live in Ireland so summer usually lasts for a weekend, or of course during lockdown 3 months.
When it’s dry in the winter I wear a hat, neck buff, base layer and running t-shirt with shorts. After 1K I’m well warmed up.
When it’s raining I wear the same plus a water proof running/cycling jacket. It keeps my top half dry. I still wear shorts all through the year.

I wear an asics lite-show vest (gilet). It’s superb. Worn with a t-shirt or long sleeved top depending on the temperature. I’ve never got too hot, plus it keeps out the wind and light rain.
Someone on here advised to dress for at least 5 degrees warmer as that was how much hotter you Got while running
I have a hi-viz running jacket for the rain or wind but because you are perspiring you won’t stay dry, whatever the label says. It’s light so I tie it round my waist if I no longer need it. Most important for me in winter is a buff around the neck, running gloves and long sleeve top and long capris .
