I've noticed that since wearing face masks on a daily basis 8am - 5pm at work; my breathing is worse when I go running short or long distances.. then again tonight 3 x400m with 90sec recovery and breathing was again shocking.

Any thoughts ?

I know night air is colder too..

But...???

They are a tad weird the masks! Maybe you breathe in a slightly shallower way, in the mask. I know I do. I breather slower and not as deep...?

Perhaps some Yoga breathing exercise might help ?

I think you may be onto something there Oldfloss, I find it impossible to tak e normal breaths with a mask on. I was reading an article in the Guardian written by a yoga teacher about how adults stop breathing the right way and explaining some techniques. I never realized how shallow my everyday breathing had become! Since then I've been breathing better during the day and it's helped my running too 🙂

Useful as well is the yoga, Pose of the Hero...( think Superman) 30 seconds only breathe normally..but as many if us don't breathe deeply enough focus on that deep breathing.

It makes a huge difference not only to breathing but also can lower our Cortisol level...reducing stress. I find it has helped me a lot..breathing and stress...x

Fantastic, thank you, I'll Google it. The first time I tried the deep breathing in the article I went all light-headed! It really was like a rush of oxygen to my brain, quite something!

For me it has been the colder air. It has been like a switch.
