Just heard on the radio that Parkrun has announced there will be no return at the end of October. Canโt say Iโm surprised, so it means that (Not) PR will remain which is still fun.
Also got an email from the Bath Half saying theyโve postponed the HM from 14/03/21 to 05/09/21.

Yes that was sad but expected news regarding parkrun NOT resuming at the end of October.
For me Saturday 31st October I will have ran 50 parkruns, 17 official Parkruns and by then if I don't miss any Saturday I will have ran 33 virtual 5K parkruns, o I know I won't get a 50 T shirt but it will for me be a milestone run.
You will have to buy a red running T-Shirt and get 50 printed on the back. And underneath a little sentence like ''Virtual 50th (not)parkrun/actual parkrun''. Like you I'm closing up on my 100th.
I might just do it myself. I'd have only been about 2-3 runs away now from my 100th. I had it all marked out on our 2020 calendar downstairs. What a waste of money that calendar was!
Absolute waste indeed Damien! The year 2020 has been something else.
Youโll definitely need to celebrate your would-be 100th. Thatโs a huge achievement. ๐๐๐ I havenโt worked out what Iโm up to, Iโll need to do some calculations I think! It would be fun to mark all our milestones when they occur over the next few months. ๐
Was going to happen, once the numbers were low enough everyone was let out and he numbers would rise again, the scary thing hing is short time span of immunity once youโve had it
They certainly do W&S, but not (Not) PR so much it seems. We used to get 500+ at our PR, sometimes over 600, but there were only 23 results for (Not) PR last week. Iโll still continue doing it. ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
It's the same everywhere, low numbers at (not) parkruns, perhaps knowning that the official Parkruns won't start until at least sometime next year there maybe more runners doing the (not) parkruns, I have always wondered why there has been so few runners running (not) parkruns.
Hi, so I completed c25k on 30/6/20 doing about 2..or 2half miles in 30 mins. Great for someone who hated sport..I've been running 3x a wk since and the last 12 runs I've managed between 3 & 3.8miles in 40 mins..so was thinking of challenging myself by doing a first park run, read these posts and it's not happening! Pls can u tell me about notpr?! Does it have to be done sat mornings as I work then?
Hi, it's quite simple, register with ParkRun site, assigning yourself a 'home' ParkRun site - this is where your (not)pr times are recorded. Whenever you go out and record a 5k time you can log it on the site - at the end of the week your fastest time will be locked in for your nominated PR site, with results published each week. FAQs are here: support.parkrun.com/hc/en-u.... Good luck.
Haha, youโll need a new one to celebrate eventually JR! I feel fortunate that I was able to run my 50th PR in just before lockdown. It would have been tantalising being stuck on 49 all these months!
At least for the moment my Thursday walking group is back, we go a 4 Kilometre walk round part of the same course as I run my 5K not parkrun in a Saturday morning, but once the walk is over we all just go home, normally, like after a official Parkrun on a Saturday we go into the cafe at the local leisure centre have a chat but that is closed.
Is this the Monsal trail in Derbyshire? Mr E & I have just cycled the whole trail a couple of weeks ago - very exciting route through tunnels, & views of the limestone gorge. ๐
I love the Monsal trail. The longest run I did on it was about 13k, in 2017, when I was training for my first Great South Run. An out and back from Hassop Station taking in 3 tunnels, one of which was very long. I am guessing your 10k (if it goes ahead) would also be from Hassop Station, if so I think you would go through 2 tunnels, including the long one.
It starts and ends at the old Bakewell station but goes past Hassop Station. Iโm not sure how many tunnels the 10k goes through but I think the Half Marathon goes through 3!
Bakewell is south east of Hassop Station so I think you would only get Headstone tunnel (the long one) in a 10k out and back. The main view from the viaduct over Monsal Dale is just as you come out of Headstone when heading north west. Hope you get to run it. Definitely worth catching breath there.
How have things been since your 10 mile run? Will you be looking at anything over the next few months virtually at all? You've been running so well ๐
Oh really good thanks Hidden . I have a nice routine of a hill run, long run and (Not) PR each week. This weekโs long one was a super relaxed no pressure 10k and I have my HU virtual HM on 14th October to look forward to, followed by the Virtual Vitality 10000 with some friends on here at the end of October. ๐
Then Iโll just pootle around between 5k and 10k over the winter now thereโs no Bath Half in March to train for. Could be worse, and I know lots of people arenโt able to run as much as I am. ๐ฅฐ
Aww thanks so much! I do laugh at myself when I donโt consider 10k hard any more. Iโm a long long way off your superhuman achievement of running a marathon though - and in such an unbelievably short time since starting running too! I began over a year before you! ๐
It's going to be a while yet unfortunately before we come out the other side of this. It appears to hate the word normal. Once normal life starts to even show signs of returning Mr Covid-19 starts to spread like wildfire. It's such a pain. But it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. It is going to be a really hard winter. But your right Cheeky, we will keep our Saturday morning (not)parkrun community going. See you at the virtual start line on Saturday morning.
Both of my favourite things have been affected by this ****** virus. I also sing in a couple of choirs - and theyโre a total no-no at the moment. Zoom just doesnโt do it justice, but we try! ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ
I have not played the PlayStation in a long time. Since lock-down I've been playing in a Virtual Battleground called Verdansk in a game called Warzone. I was terrible in the beginning, but I've been slowly improving. I go online with friends some evenings when I get to kick Oisin and Lorcan off the PS4 and we have fun trying to be the last standing at the end. Not what a 46 year old should be doing in his spare time, but it's fun. In fact it is the only Virtual thing I want to do other than our Saturday morning Virtual parkruns.
Oh thatโs brilliant Damien! Your boys have serious competition! ๐คฃ
My lockdown non running hobby was jigsaws and still is! Iโve done multiple 2,000 piece ones and buy a new one when Iโm close to finishing. The funniest thing (in hindsight) was my cat tipping the first one I did off the table with only about 200 pieces to go. It had taken me 8 weeks! I almost cried! ๐ ๐
Itโs impossible isnโt it Sandie? Some friends and I met up a few times over the summer and we sang outside, plus they all came here for a singing barbecue a little while ago, but that was before the rule of 6. Back to Zoom it is (and itโs not good is it?) ๐
The problem with Zoom is the time lag between voices so itโs impossible for even a small group to sing together. So we sing along with the MD, or a backing track, whilst on mute. Kind of defeats the object of singing in a choir really! ๐ ๐คช๐ถ
Mmmm! It does rather. Our latest email offering was a Covid song by the West Australia Symphony Orchestra to a Gilbert &Sullivan tune. Good for a giggle ๐
Ditto. About this time of year we'd be ramping up rehearsals for a concert to go on in the half term break. I even wrote a SATB arrangement of "Flower Power" songs for us to sing.
Itโs sad to be missing out on singing too isnโt it nowster ? We have a wonderful Christmas repertoire that weโd be starting on in October ....... wonโt be the same online. ๐๐ถ
Sooo sad - plus all the events that are now being pushed further back too.๐
I have a 10k in November and am just waiting for that to go the same way too...๐ข
I have entered a couple of virtual challenges over the last few months and love the effort that is going in to some of these but nothing quite beats the buzz of race day does it? ๐
Any way, we keep on running on.๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐๐ป๐ช
Staying safe is most important, youโre right Sandra. โค๏ธ
Iโm desperate to run the Bath Half for real. This year I chose to run it virtually even though it was held (I didnโt feel happy doing it on March 15th), and next yearโs has been pushed back - but run it I will!
I hope your race can go ahead. ๐ค I did the Severn Bridge 10k in August which ended up being a time trial - but it was a real race with real people! So it can be done. ๐
Yes, I remember your Race report Cheeky - it can be done! The race I've entered is on an old airfield, masses of space. Limited entry and lots of safety measures in place...but cases are rising so I worry that by the end of November they may not be allowed to go ahead. I will keep everything crossed until then!๐ค๐ค
Here we go again...all the postponed races being postponed again. I know none of itโs a surprise and definitely not parkrun but really, enough already ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
We will, I know we will ๐ค Just getting fed up with the words โcancelledโ, โpostponedโ and โvirtualโ (sorry roseabi!) and Iโd really like to stop running up that flippinโ hill each week for (not) parkrun when thereโs the lovely flat course 10 minutes away ๐ (sorry, mini rant over - I love this forum!!!)
This is such a shame cheeky but not unexpected - my grand total of 14 Parkruns is looking like it may be stuck there for some time! At least I have my Volunteer T-shirt to flaunt! I donโt think Parkrun HQ had any choice when the rules changed, did they? Ah well, at least we have (not)Parkruns and the forum to keep us going!
Cherish that teeshirt OGR. Thatโs one I didnโt reach, although Iโd have been close by the end of this year if things had been normal.
I know it was inevitable - in fact I was very skeptical when they said PR hoped to return. It gave us that tantalising glimmer of hope - how cruel! ๐ฉ๐
Hi CC itโs soooo frustrating but I guess as you say expected. Perhaps parkrun more than others as it as much a social event as a run. But disappointing never the less. And sorry to hear itโs the bath half as well ๐
It really is, isnโt is Runsome? The tiny glimmer of hope was real! Oh well, (Not) PRs throughout the winter itโll be, on my soon to be squelchy common! I think the word for that will be character-building! ๐คฃ
And definitely a shame about the Bath Half. Iโm sooo looking forward to running a real HM, not just a virtual one! ๐โโ๏ธ
Itโs been coming... while parkrun would currently still be legal, I think it would not be good for the anxiety around covid and could see runners become the target of abuse out there. Very good decision by parkrun, even though Iโd love to run one tomorrow.
My first thought was to how early Bath Half had made their decision... but I think theyโre being very sensible... London Marathon cancelled way too late for people who need to make sacrifices to fit the training in, an early call is better than that... and also are any runs likely to get the road closures the need and permission for thousands or runners in start pens? Unlikely over the next few months Iโd have thought.
We can do many amazing runs... take notes... and have tons of stories to swap after the next parkrun!
Yes UNM, I agree. As I said on Strava, Iโm uber mindful enough as it is when passing walkers out running, and even then I get the (very) occasional โlookโ.โ Imagine how bad weโd look to walkers using a PR route on a Saturday morning and having hundreds of runners descending on them? I think PR definitely made the right decision at this time.
I was relieved the Bath Half called it now, rather than say February! We can adjust our training appropriately. Thereโs always next September ....... ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐
Yup... and Iโm sure that even if covid is around this time next year, we will have learned enough from whatโs happened this year to at least control it a little more predictably.
Locally someone accused runners of being the reason it hasnโt gone away... pretty ridiculous to not accuse the walkers, shoppers, diners and drinkers too if you ask me. On a regular run we are within 2 metres of others for a very short time, if at all.
It is Stephen. ๐ But weโll be back wonโt we? ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ Imagine the moment when PR returns for good and the vile virus is history, or at least under control. What an amazing day thatโll be! ๐
Just like this amazing Community, together ๐ค....WE will give the virus ๐ฆ ๐ก ๐จ ๐ฅ the Gremlin treatment and slay!
Iโm going to join in on (Not) Park Run ๐ฒ ๐ณ ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Saturdayโs!! Perfect for my running plan! ๐....!
Today...Iโm a very late entry (yesterday), but doing The โVery 2020 Race for Lifeโ for Cancer Research! ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฌ๐ง๐ผโ๐ฌ๐จ๐ปโ๐ฌ....๐ฆพ
Stay safe ๐ท and run on ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ! ๐๐ฝ...๐คโค๏ธ
How wonderful youโre joining (Not) PR! Youโve also no doubt seen damienair โs posts on a Saturday where we our log (Not) PR run reports too. ๐ฅฐ
And woohoo for you joining Race for Life! Youโre certainly on a wonderful running roll! Yay! โค๏ธ๐๐๐
Ah thanks so much Cheeky!! ๐ค Iโve realised though with the current run/walk Garmin 10k plan, itโs not going to make as much sense to do Not PR yet ๐ณ. The distances for the long run are a bit more than 5k now. Iโm very happy about that though!! ๐
