So this morning I am beginning to realize that my ankle, which I twisted eight days ago ( not that I'm counting ) is going to be a slow process to get it back to fitness. Each evening I plunge it into ice cold water to reduce the puffiness that has developed throughout the day and wonder when will I be able to run again? I put on two pounds last week and am missing being able to get out into the fresh air - sun, wind or rain. I can see C25K coming for the third time but I shall look forward to that. Until then, I guess I'll just plump up the cushions on my IC and go green every time I read your posts!
Happy running you lot! π

Sorry about your injury 59er, I hope it won't be too long before you can get back to running and are off the IC, in the meantime keep reading other posts on this forum and you can still congratulate or advise runners on their runs and achievements.
Indeed! Lockdown isn't quite so much fun in this weather but I do enjoy sitting inside and not having to go anywhere when it's like this. The noise of the rain on the window I find is quite therapeutic π
I so get how you are feeling. Donβt loose sight of just how far you have come and your amazing achievement . Think of this as just a pause. I hope you heal well and so look forward to your coming back posts....you have so got this when you are all fit and well again.
Bless you, I feel for you because Iβve sprained an ankle and know what itβs like. It does take time to heal unfortunately because there is slow blood flow to that area (further away from the heart). Rest, elevation and ice is the way to go, but when you can then start doing gentle exercises (even just rotating your ankle helps with mobility but only do this when youβre pain free) and stretches, especially the calves. An ankle injury tightens up the calves so stretch the calves regularly.
Looking forward, youβll need to strengthen the ankle as it will be more prone to further injury again βΉοΈ
However, it is very treatable and you will run again. But of course, ease back into running when the time comes, which you no doubt know π
Thanks for your encouraging words. The worst thing about this is that I had a problem with the other ankle (same foot) a couple of years ago and spent a year on the IC. Hence the talk of doing C25K for a third time. I will indeed take it slowly as the thought of not being able to run makes me quite miserable but I need to get everything into perspective. The bruise is out and it's a sprain fortunately - not a break!
I wrote you a reply earlier today but it's disappeared! I have a tubi grip which I've been wearing but tbh I'm not sure if it's doing any good. What's so frustrating is that I've just treated myself to a Vivoactive 3 and it keeps telling me to MOVE!
Turn your move notifications off in settings, i do understand itβs so frustrating, after I was ill in january my vo2max went down and down and there i was running 8 k and my vivoactive telling me i had a fitness age of 79 lol
Yikes, sorry you are not only still on the IC but also that your ankle is still needing ice treatment each day. Is it maybe time to get it checked out in case there is some deeper damage?. Take care π€
Keep the faith - you will be back! I know only too well how frustrating it feels being stuck on the ic but each time, I work my way back! Take care and hope your ankle is better soon.π
Like you say it's only 8 days and I know 8 days can seem so long when you want to run. Keep doing what you are but if you find it's not getting better maybe get it checked out by a doctor. Good luck π€π€
I could have written this post, what with shielding and the dodgy Achilles! Sorry to hear of your injury.....weβll go green together on the couch! π€’π€£
Oooh Wenderwoo are you still suffering with your Achilles? Ankles are so frustrating aren't they? You just can't really do anything to jolly them along to fitness can you? Who knows we may well be doing the C25K together again in the future π
Unfortunately yes. I had physio, and had started running again twice a week as advised by the Physio. But then the physio stopped with lockdown, and so did the running, and the Achilles reared itβs ugly head again. I think itβs stubborn as itβs a long term thing. But, Iβm currently trying calf strengthening exercises as I feel it stems from there. Fingers crossed we can get back to it sometime soon.....I quite like the idea of starting again tbh π
I don't know about you but the injury has taken all my motivation for exercise away. I really do need to start to so something but it's difficult when you can't use your ankle!
So sorry to read about your setback and I can well imagine how miserable you feel when you just want to get out there. You are definitely not alone in this and I hope that helps a bit. Lots of other green faces are popping up to keep you company and here is mine π€’ π I know what you mean, Iβve found it hard to watch others running on ahead enjoying their runs whilst Iβve been ill/injured. I hope your recovery isnβt a long one this time and that in the meantime you find ways to keep up your spirits. π€
I've been wondering where you were and this post explains it! I'm sorry to hear that you've been ill/injured and hope that you're now on the mend.
I shouldn't winge because when push comes to shove it could be a lot worse so I'm going to try and look on the bright side and I'll meet you in C25K next time round!
Thanks Roxdog. Yes - frustrating is the word but hey ho! I can't change it. It'll teach me to look where I'm going though π We appear to be in the same age bracket and I see you've had your fair share of injuries/aches and pains so you'll know exactly how I'm feeling. Wish I'd started this running lark years ago!
As a fellow injured runner I do understand! Just about getting back to a very slow, cautious run after over a month. It's going to be a slow process though, no long runs for me for a while yet!
