So, I've been told I have tight calves and hamstrings and need to use a foam roller so after some advice and guidance from you good people. Where can I get one? Is there a particular type I need? And then, probably most importantly, what do I do with it?? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Haha. Yep they can be evil... πŸ˜‚.

I bought one a while back and to be honest didn't really use it much until this weekend when I had a little time.. So googled stuff and a found a runners u tube vid that explained stuff. Ouch some areas were sore! But I took it slow and steady and did feel better.

Lots of places sell them, u can get smooth of knobbly. 😊 What I found for me was better to roll slow than fast. Basically just let the roller roll gently under your calves (or wherever) by moving your body. Apply more pressure if needed. When find a sore or tight area just stay there a bit longer.. That's what I did anyway.

Have fun.

Ps my mate actually did a course on it with her physio! So I'm awaiting tips

I got one following advice from my sports osteopath and he gave me specific exercises. What worked for me may not work for you.... there is alot online about how to use them. I find now that by doing yoga it does the same thing..... good luck with it !

I saw a podiatrist during a fitting for new walking boots and it's her that's recommended one... although she did say I needed to see a sports physio although not time critical. She also said yoga would be good. I started the 30 day yoga challenge and I've just done day 15, so not managing to do a session every day but definitely noticing the benefits. Maybe I just stick with the yoga for now... more pondering needed I think!

Foam rollers can be painful, build up slowly. You'll get them in sports shops but also supermarkets, dont spend a fortune for a named brand, they all cause the same amount of painπŸ₯΄ I've seen them cheap in both tesco and aldi. They should come with instructions otherwise find a you tube video - did I say start short time and gentle πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ dont scream too loud.

Ha ha, the comment about them all causing the same amount of pain made me chuckle! I think I need to do some more research... thank you for your advice 😊

A good place to start is a fairly soft roller. I have one of the Escape fitness ones. The purple one rather than green.
