On the advice of a good friend who used to be a New Zealand Olympic triathlete and at 60 is still as fit as a flea, I've taken a break from the grinding plods.

She recommended sprint bursts mixed with walking. So I rejoined Laura on Week 1 of C25K. Good to hear her voice again! Boy, those sprints are testing.

That's really interesting. At 62 I never really know what I should be be doing for the best, should I be trying to increase by distances (10k is about my max currently) or trying to speed up my 5k time . . .

The choice is yours orangeguy , but not both at the same time.

I think we may be in a similar situation. I am 63 and have been running for a year now, but seem to have reached a plateau: parkrun times stuck stubbornly at about 36 minutes, cadence at 150 unless I deliberately push it and stride length at 84cm. Will report back.

I realise I need to switch things up a bit too HF, so I’ll be doing more “speed” work (it’s all relative!) this winter. Once I’ve done the GSR in October I’ll be maxing out at 10ks until the spring and doing more (horrific) intervals. Arrgggh, give me distance any time! 😩😅

Good luck, I look forward to hearing how you get on. 😀

I’ll report back. I’ve described the situation above to orangeguy. I don’t expect to become a gazelle after 40 years of little exercise beyond dog walking, but some incremental improvements would be heartening.
