So I didn’t get a place for our local 10K so relaxed my running (was doing a couple of runs a week around 5k, didn’t run for two weeks). This week I was offered a place from the waiting list and accepted I ran/walked 7k in 70 mins today so expecting my 10K to be around 100 minutes. I’ve checked and there’s no strict cut off time and I can walk some/all, but previously everyone has finished around 90 minutes. If I manage to even complete it am I going to feel embarrassed of coming last or proud of running 10K? I don’t want to put myself through it if I’m going to feel rubbish afterwards
10K Sunday...most likely gonna take 100 minutes - Bridge to 10K
10K Sunday...most likely gonna take 100 minutes
You will not feel rubbish, you will feel elated because you’ll have completed a 10 k race for the first time . You are in it so enjoy the experience and collect the bling. I will be running in the new Forest at the same time.
Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if you do the first K in closer to 8 minutes than 10, given the burst of adrenaline that comes with a real race, and keep doing 9s for the rest of it - so that’s 89 minutes 😀. No problem!
Someone will be last...it may be you or it may be someone else.
That in no way detracts from having done a 10k, even if you walked some of it. I bet you run faster than you expect though, but just do what you can. Go and enjoy yourself
Even if you are the last of those who show up... you are still faster than the thousands of Sunday couch dwellers! Just showing up and going for it makes you a winner 🤩 and it will be a great learning experience.
Pretty sure you will feel proud to have taken part and finished it. The atmosphere will be great and I’m sure everyone very supportive.
Happy running 🏃♀️
Hi dandy lion 360 go for it! I’m in a similar position and I was just thinking I’d enter a 10K in October - I don’t mind if I come last - I will have done it which is a huge personal achievement for me as it will be my 6 month Runniversary!
I've only done one 10k race, which was an out and back. Everybody cheered the later runners on the way back, particularly the slowest. I think other runners recognise that you are putting in just as much effort, if not more, and admire you for it. Don't let your speed define you and go for it!
I have my first one at the end of this month. Blurb says slowest pacer is 70 mins and if we are over 85 mins we may be asked to go on path as kids run starts then.
Prizes will also be given at 85 mins!
I will just shuffle along to my music and get there when I get there. Doing it for me not a time 😊
Most events have a tail runner so you are unlikely to be last - relax and enjoy it. Unless there’s a published cutoff (eg to open roads) time isn’t going to matter.
Achieving the 10k is the most important thing, try to concentrate on that. Good luck and enjoy
I did it! I did it! It was hard, I walked most chatting with the tail runner. But I did it, and somewhere around 95 minutes thanks for the support!!!
