Planks in Juju

How are people getting on with planks in Week 1 of Juju plan. I forgot to do them yesterday after my long run so did them this evening (when I remembered!).

I’ve done yoga before so I am familiar with the poses but I’ve never held them for 30 seconds... anyway I gave it a go and just managed, I ended up doing one of each on Juju’s plank sheet.

What about everyone else? 😊

I do planks alongside a few YouTube videos, one is the "Perfect three minute plank challenge" with Tom Holland, the other is a "7 minute plank challenge" it's not a continuous 7 minute plank but a series of 60,90,120,90 60 second elbow planks with 4/15 second breaks between them, give them a try sometime.

Well done JaoJao!!

It is better to plank for a shorter amount of time, particularly at first. You are much more likely to get benefit from the pose, and stay safe from harm, if you only hold it for as long as you can stay in the correct position. If you find that your back is starting to sag, please stop and rest!

It is helpful to have a mirror nearby if you can, so you can glance over and check your form. Remember to keep looking forward most of the time.

Enjoy your new-found strength!

I’ve added them into my Sun Salutation sort of.

I have a Belly Blitz DVD, I never got further than hearing “and now we’re hitting planks from all directions” and switching it off. Perhaps if I watch a couple of times with a coffee I might be inspired 🤣😂🤣😂

🤣🤣🤣👍 I like your approach to my least favourite exercise. (Or maybe I should try a parallel approach to squats.)

I just did one rep of 30 second front plank and 15 seconds each side on the side planks - I used my knees on the side ones too. Still every little helps

Me too...the front plank seems do-able but I couldn't balance on the side planks without knee support! They certainly feel like they're good for you...them and squats 😳

Found the front plank fine, surprisingly! Used to do it years (and years!) ago in the gym, so it didn’t feel unfamiliar. Have not been brave enough to try the side planks yet. Bit scared of wobbling off sideways in a heap 😂😱😂 Heading out for a run shortly. Will give them a go afterwards!

The side ones do feel odd, if you do the easier one where you use your under leg knee as support the balance is ok...good luck with them 👍

Thanks! Will give that a go 😊

Good on you JaoJao core work is very good and doing one of each is great 😉 I’ve done them for months now and can just about hold it for 90sec not done the side plank yet as at the time my shoulder wasn’t having any of it but now quite possible x

Oh my goodness! Today my core is aching, I think I overdid it! That will teach me to go easy next time!!! On a positive note, wow these planks really do work 😂😂

What is it they say, no pain no gain 👍

Lol, fab aren't they...I was like that after the squats, I could barely walk 😆. And as for when we get to press ups 😳. It's all fab though, so good for improving our running 👍🏃‍♀️

Hi JaoJao

I have done two of my Week 1 runs of Ju-Ju's Magic Running Plan, and therefore done planks after both those runs - I am doing modified ones, as I've not done them before, and I find them really tough! Sweating buckets - shaking, but I have managed to do one of each - i.e. the forward one, then 2 side ones and I end on a further 'forward one' - I'm hoping to keep it up.

Great to hear people's experiences and tips.

Zest :-)

I didn’t realise how tough they were until the next day, the soreness crept up on me but no regrets, next time I will go easy.

Well done you did then after the run, that’s very wise!

I will do planks after parkrun tomorrow! I’ve only just recovered from planks earlier in the week 😊
