With the weekend looming and the temperature rising (nooooooooo!) for the Severn Bridge 10k on Sunday - itβs currently saying 27 degrees (π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅), I thought Iβd pop up onto the common for a gentle leg stretch, incorporate some friendly hills and generally have a nice pootle with Flossie π
I did all those things, but one thing I didnβt plan on was falling down a hole. π³ Trotting along one moment, the next Iβm on the ground with my dog bouncing around wondering what on earth I was doing down there!
Theyβd been grass cutting, so whilst it looked lovely with more of the trails accessible again, the lying cut grass covered a multitude of sins, including pesky holes. π
I sat on the ground pondering (and hoping no one saw!) - I was lucky as there was no twist involved, just a thud at the top of my shin below my knee. Itβs a bit achy and Iβm sure Iβll have a bruise, but I was able to continue on - albeit slower than Iβd planned - and I was very careful picking my footing. I ended up doing 6k. It was a lovely morning and a lovely run.
Home now for breakfast, and frozen peas on my leg! π
Next stop a scorching 10k ..... Iβd better start hydrating now! πββοΈπ₯΅ βοΈ

Oh no cheeky. It doesnβt sound like youβve done too much damage thankfully. So enjoy the ice pack and fingers crossed for you. Maybe just a 5 minute run on Saturday to check all is in order as part of your taper.
No I think I was lucky Dexy. It could easily have been a twisted knee or ankle, and that would have been so disappointing with this weekend and next weekendβs fun running plans. π
Yes, good plan Iβll trot around the lake after Iβve volunteered at PR. Itβs about a km, so perfect. π
Haha yes it was totally uncontrolled BIT! Probably good because I didnβt try to correct myself, which might have ended up with me twisting something. π
Iβm sitting here now with a big bag of petit pois on my leg! π
Thanks Deb! I did sit on the ground for a couple of minutes wondering what Iβd done to myself! I still canβt remember how I fell - Iβm assuming my knee buckled forward when I stepped in the hole and fell. So lucky it wasnβt a sideways twist π
Iβm not looking forward to the heat at all. Iβll just take it easy. πββοΈππββοΈ
Oh you have no idea how gutted Iβd be if I couldnβt run on Sunday clubber. Itβs the first race I entered when I knew 10k would be in my future. π But 27 degrees will be a tester for me. I hate running in the heat. π₯΅π₯΅ Hereβs hoping for a cooling breeze on the Bridge .... π€π€π€
Heads-up as well...Cheeky... We're starting a sort of 'Inspiration Monday' post.. on here. So we want people to post something that's inspired them. It will be a pinned post where people can watch films, check out books, read people's comments. And we're going to talk about the POWER! of inspiration. ππ So.. have a think.. Be nice to have your thoughts on there! π
Others have covered all the obvious bases in being nice to you, so I'll cut to the chase - while sitting there contemplating life, did you remember to pause your watch?
Sorry about your injury cheeky, hopefully it will have completely cleared by Sunday, running on the bridge will mean that you avoid the worst of the heat with a sea breeze coming up from the Severn, good luck for your π run. π
Thanks Al. Iβll be taking it easy just walking and maybe a short test jog on Saturday to see how itβs feeling. Iβm sure itβs nothing serious. ππ€
Thatβs my hope, the Severn will afford some relief from the heat. I wouldnβt normally choose to run at all in 27 degree heat, let alone 10k! π
Good luck on Sunday Cheeky. An event in that heat is less than fun, but make the most of it, wear more water than you drink π and prepare for a slower run. I'm glad you weren't hurt on your fall. That would have been horrible. Those darn pesky holes!
I was really hoping for a grey drizzly day Sask, but no such luck. Yep, I intend to pour water liberally over my head and not give two hoots how I look! Iβm sure I wonβt be the only one. π
And of course Iβll remain slow. Thatβs one thing I can definitely do!! π π
Ouch, Cheeky that sounds grim - it happens so quickly doesnβt it? One second youβre bimbling along, the next one youβre an ungainly heap on the floor! Well I am anyway, donβt do anything elegantly! Hope you heal soon - I know youβve got lots of running come up!
Exactly that OGR, fine one minute, on my a*se the next! π π I do have runs aβplenty in my future, so an injury now would not be welcome. Think I was lucky this time round ..... π€π€
A near squeak cheeky; that could have blown months of hard work. Glad you are ok. Presence of mind to stop the watch shows there was no concussion!
I will sneak in here, where nobody will notice, that I did a really slow 18k today. It wasn't too hot up here, so I just put the auto drive on "slow" to see what happened. Legs are aching a bit; Park Run may be doubtful. Somebody needs to keep you virtual company on these longer efforts.
YOU DID WHAT????!!!! Hello BC, Iβm not sure you should be keeping such distances secret! πππ Huge well done to you! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ Might there be a chance youβll join UpTheStanley and I on our virtual HM next month? ππββοΈπ€
Yes, you can probably imagine my rage if Iβd have twisted or sprained, or even broken, something today. I think I got away with it though. Just need to deal with the heat on Sunday now ..... π₯΅
Congratulations Beachcomber66. Well Done. You cannot keep secrets from me and Sandie1961 . OMG Iβm being left behind. Although I have asked myself whether I would prefer to have this glorious weather down here or be cool enough to run 16k this week and the answer is the weather .
Just brilliant cheeky. Met up with cousin today as we were going out on her barge, but it was too wet for the picnic she had planned, so coffee on barge and then adjourned to a pub for lunch and a walk along the canal afterwards (Iβm thinking would love to run here) with her and her yummy Border Collie. Catching up with Aunt and Uncle tomorrow then parkrun Saturday with Baddiethepirate and Runningroni. Heaven!β€οΈπ₯°
Gosh I am so behind with all the posts!!!! How are you doing Cheeky??? Hope you are ok π€. Good luck for Sunday. Just a short run for you π. You will be sweaty! Hot but wow you will have a fabulous run. π
