Schrödinger's run is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian runner Erwin Schrödinger in 1935 (some say he had something to do with physics but whatever!). It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum jogging applied to everyday runners.
If you run on a dark stormy night, and all sane people are safe indoors NOT outside getting battered by 20/25 mph winds, and therefore these people don’t see you run - Schrödinger's theory says that you might have run and you might not have run, but until someone’s sees you run, know one actually knows if you’re running or not. Thus the runner is in a quantum state of both jogging and being on the couch at the same time.
I can assure you, I was out there, I have proof, Strava never lies ....... well that and the fact that my earphones were literally blown out of my ears and off my head!

Well, paradox or not, our legs will undoubtedly tell us it happened tomorrow. Gotta love the DOMS. 😁
Schrödinger's Strava is also an amazing app. It tells us if we had couch or cake, but relies entirely on bribes for its survival. Unfortunately, it is profoundly self interested, and tends to the show what we want to hear.
Related to this is the question of the Heisenberg (some say it is more correctly the Heisenberg-Strava) tracking paradox; if your phone can locate you, it won't tell you your velocity, but if you need to know your velocity, well, good luck finding out where you are.
Basically what I'm saying is, if you find you are on your couch, you might in fact still be moving at 10Km/hr.
If they saw you then you then that very interaction would put you right back on the sofa! I think it's best to get the cat to observe you on the sofa, then at least you can be sure you are 100% out there running. I'm confused. I'm going with the sofa when I want to run, and a run when I want to lounge on the sofa just to be sure!
It's not going too bad thanks- I was just thinking this morning how much I love running! Like really love it! I am up to 8k (week 4?) of the Bridge and can't believe how far I've come since starting this running lark in May. I am constantly on running websites (even when supposed to be working!) and plotting my next route. It's great isn't it?! x
Well that’s let the cat out of the bag, or should I say box?
I've only just seen this post, but how I laughed!! Schrödinger's run... whatever next. He also had a cat I believe, both dead and alive at the same time or something like that.
Speaking of cats... I couldn't help thinking of this other well known thought experiment. You know how cats always land on their feet, and toast always lands butter-side down? attach toast butter-side up to the back of a cat, and drop it from a height of a metre or so. Apparently said cat will hover a few inches off the ground spinning. What that has to do with running I do not know, but it amused me!!!
Glad you survived your run Mitch. I was out in gale force winds today, so I feel for you
