So as I’m the kind of nerd that tracks anything I can, I know that this morning’s run was my 27th since completing C25K.
And that is significant why exactly? Well it’s not really is it, but it does mean I’ve now run as many times since completing C25K as I did when doing it.
So I decided to mark it with what turned out to be one of my least enjoyable runs. 5k as fast as possible. Was it fast? For me, yes. Did I enjoy it? Not really, was counting the metres down at the end, but it is quite satisfying to have done.
So back to longer and easier runs now, possibly stopping counting, and maybe parkrun and/or a 10K race. But mainly just running and doing what I feel like each time I head out.

You’re right - still a very new runner and injury is a risk so definitely need to avoid getting carried away. Probably only really pushed it twice in the last couple of months though and don’t plan to do so again any time soon. But occasionally nice to see what’s possible 😀
I’ll look into a race to give me a focus. Not massively keen on crowds so have tended to stay happily running by myself so far but I think I should try it at least once.
I do small races with small numbers There are some excellent ones. I did my first marathon with a field of 28 runners 😁. The big events don’t really appeal to me. I did a tiny event last Sunday. Brill fun and for a local good cause
That's super fast!! Do you do any interval training runs? I enjoy the challenge, and the fact you get a break between faster bursts Now doing one pyramid interval training run per week, which has been helping me go faster more easily in my steady paced runs.
I’ve done intervals a few times and it’s taken me a while to get to something I enjoy. Did 30-20-10 last week and seemed good so I’ll definitely be going more.
Mainly though I’ve been stretching my distance and have found it easier to sustain a higher pace on shorter distances as a result. I found that I my 10K pace isn’t hugely slower than my 5k so figured should be something left to squeeze out.
It’s funny how it’s all related isn’t it? Still don’t really know what I’m doing but I’m finding it very interesting how different training works.
The Human body is an amazing thing! I've been doing 30-40-50-60-50-40-30s intervals so far, 2 fast ones at each time, but the 1st one at "medium" effort and the 2nd one at maximum. I think that should reduce the chance of pulling a muscle! So far so good anyway.
