I ran yesterday, just a short 3.5k but it was my first run in 3 weeks. This was due to a combination of socialising (lovely) and minor viral illness (not so great).
I had got to the stage of wondering if the past 18 months had all been a dream - me, a runner? Don't be daft!
Anyway, yesterday I got the old feeling and joy back. Sadly I have dropped off the ju-ju- 10k plan for now but I'll take it up as the new year progresses. My more immediate goal is to get ski fit for my holiday at the end of January - went to the gym today and did my ski fitness routine.
Glad to be back on the forum. Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I was lucky enough to get a couple of running tops and some good socks 😄

I know that "Dream" feeling. From being a 10k graduate to over two months now out of action.
Just got cleared the day before Christmas Eve to " you can try a VERY GENTLE 10 yards tomorrow" - then ice and snow that night made it lethal to go outside anyway.
A setback Christmas morning when my hip popped out a bit, pain that day and yesterday. They popped it back in this morning but man it is frustrating.
I'm giving this until New Year's day then come hell or high water I'm going out to do my ten yards and start back on the Running track
Your hip is dislocating Irish-John ? Sorry to hear that. Take great care especially on the ice & snow where you are. Don't overdo it on the running track either.
I can't imagine not running for 2 months. 3 weeks was bad enough! Hope you get back to it gradually & that the hip behaves itself. Is there a possibility of physio ('physical therapy') where you are to strengthen the muscles around the hip?
3 weeks?!? My son is yelling at me because I haven't run for five days! ...and I'm feeling logy.... so I guess I need someone to yell at me, but I've been shoveling snow lately--lots of it--more than 6 inches anyway on our driveway--maybe 8.... I'm drinking coffee, which I usually don't drink--trying to get up the courage to go out and drive to an indoor track ....
Physio three times a week and it's torture. It's also very frustrating in that I have 'good' days and 'bad' days - never know what is going to happen when I wake up in the am, pain free relatively speaking or feeling like nothing is getting better. No chance of running the allowed 'gentle ten yards' as the day after I was cleared to that - snow and ice making it so lethal outside I won't even walk around the Park let alone try running.
There is a God - and apparently he is rather pissed at this Irishman LOL
But - life goes on. Running will happen again, of that I am sure. It might not be the distance/time/speed I had but it will happen to whatever extent I can do it And I sure as heck will appreciate it more than ever so that will be a VERY NICE FEELING indeed
I am not giving up on doing a marathon for my 60th in '20 either - I swear, no matter how long it takes me I WILL be passing that finish line sometime that year AND making airplane noises and swooping over the line with 'airplane arms' LOL
I have not ran in 2 months. Trying to get back into it. Like you did 3.5K 2 days ago and did 3K today at a faster pace. Kind of nice to have the tired feeling in my legs again. Working my way back up to 5K and then will work at getting back to 10K. Will take my time.
Sorry to hear you have been poorly and hope you were able to enjoy your Christmas. I haven’t been running much in December, but wasn't expecting to as been staying away, then had houseguests. Reading that you felt 'the joy' when out running has started me planning when I can next get out...
I'm going to redo ju ju's plan in the New Year too, with intervals as ths short run this time...
Enjoy getting ready for your ski trip in a few weeks time😊xx
Hi Jan, I did a slow 5k today and 3.5k on Wednesday so I think I will count that as part of week 1 and will try for 5.5k on Tuesday. I will have a week off at the end of January when I am away though. Happy New Year!
I just did 4k today, but I would like to do intervals for the short run, so will do 5k on Tues as my first run of the plan... so will follow in your footsteps. Well done to you for getting us started😊xx
Well done! I stuck the schedule on my fridge as well 😄 so I can strike them off as I do them. Yes, I did the 3k of week 2 on Thursday, it was windier than I expected so it was tough. I'm away from home this weekend with no time to run so will go out again on Tuesday. Good luck with your 5.5k tomorrow x
Brilliant that you’re back running & back on here...we don’t feel complete when there’s one missing!!!! Super start & now that 2018 is here you can have a new whole year of fabulous running & posting on our forum!! What could be better???? Eerrrrrm.....nowt!!!? Lol x
