Sometimes you just have to go for it...

Today was the long run day; the original programme was to run 8k but, at the end of it I was still pretty far from home and I didn't really want to walk the entire distance in the freezing northerly wind... so I kept going.

By the time I was close to home, another kilometre was under my belt and I couldn't avoid to think "well, you've come this far; it would be a pity to stop so close to the magic 10k mark and the new shiny badge"... and I went for it.

I have to admit that the last kilometre was quite challenging for my thighs but at the end of the run there was only some comprehensible stiffness; no soreness at all.

So here I am; in mid-January, when I began the C25K programme, I wasn't even sure I would have completed it, today I ran 10.51km in 01:05:45.

Not bad. 🙂

Brilliant Secan. Even if it does make me sick that all you young things can beat my PB's within months of starting to run! You're a star. Now you need some serious races to aim for!

Young things? According to parkrun I'm not even in the "senior" category; I'm officially a "veteran". 😤

Anyway, as I recently said to Oldfloss , I can only hope to be as a good runner as you are, when I reach your age. And you still beat me on the distance, you marathoner. 😉

Not bad, indeed. Heroic in fact!! I'm still struggling to increase my distance I think it's the android "activity completed" or Laura's cheery "that's it,well done!" That shuts down all cylinders and makes me slow up and stop. Going to try the android on a free run and listen to a book and see how we go.

That is a cracking pace for s 10k you should be immensely proud!

Yes, sometimes all those "almost there", "one more minute", "that's it", etc. can be counterproductive as they mentally prepare you to stop.

Since graduation, I like to run without apps feedback or music; I just follow my train of thought or, in a very good day, lose it an run absolutely "mindlessly". I find it extremely relaxing and it helps unleashing mental and physical resources.

I did a free run the other day as my phone was flat. Now I've learnt to run, as it were, I knew the gremlins would pack it in after a while so as you say I zoned out completely and ran what I knew to be a good 5k in what I suspect was a good time. Odd really as I was determined to go slow but my watch told me if covered the distance in 37 minutes and I felt fine despite doing that same distance in longer time but "pressure" of apps and feeling shattered afterwards.

Wow great pace secan!Congratulations for  that!  Within 4 months to 10k is amazing progress. 😊😆

Amazing to get to 10k so quickly, good time too. I also just went for it to do my 10k one day while out for a shorter run. But now it's been a few months and no repeat of it yet. Make sure you keep it up 😊

Secan you truly are a star *, you are but a blip in the distance. And it's not a 10k as people keep saying, it's a 10.51k (so important to acknowledge this in my opinion). Well done, and love the shiny new badge.

It does feel good and it makes me curious to explore how much further I can go.

Well, I have time and will to do it... that should be enough to satisfy that curiosity. 🙂
