I am afraid this is Stage IV Mets Breast Cancer. The Goal here to be honest is not cure, but to keep her going as long as possible. There are various drugs available in the armemantarium to keep her quality of life intact and cancer controlled.
Your mother would need to be under a Medical Oncologist soon. The chemo regimen will be decided once ER/PR/Her2 is known. The treatment will be prolonged over months to years.
Your mother is from Kolkata, you ll have to decide whether to get her treatment at Mumbai or at Kolkata, as Kolkata now has quite a few advanced new centres.
My suggestion is to understand the chemotherapy protocol / regimen, its duration, its cost before making any decision. These first line std treatment options are available in Kolkata as well.
Thanks Dr Rohit. She is getting treated by Dr Sandeep Goyle at Kokilaben. She has been suggested 12 weeks chemo of Abraxan and Herclone.doc said they will review after 3 months.
Hi Vineet - Very sorry to hear about your mother. As you are already in one of the good hospitals - she will receive the best treatment. Take best care of her. Take care and keep posting her progress
Can you please help with good surgical and medical oncologist in Kolkata. I have got in touch with Dr suparna from Apollo .....anyone else you would like to refer . We plan to have further treatment in Kolkata. Thanks
Cancer can only be cured if it can be physically removed from body.Unfortunately when it attacks soft tissues like liver,it may not be curable. But she can remain stable with help of medicines for long time
Please dp ask for percentage ER,PR,HER2.This can be relevant later.
If you can afford genetic test on tumor,it can help decide the right chemos for her as many chemos are ineffective which is known only after patient undergoes scans later on.
Best wishes Vineets, My mother is also in the same situation. She also of almost the same age. Please do not panic as your mother will require you to be strong and support her through the process.
In my case, It has been the other way round. I am drawing strength from my mother. She is handling the treatment very well and is all charged up.
Pray that she handles the chemo well and benefits from the same.
