Sore bones

Hi had a mastectomy then chemo and rads now on injections to put overies to sleep and exemestan tablets and I’m in so much pain my bones are so sore anybody got any suggestions doc given me cocodimal not working very well

I had sore bones when I was on hormone therapy. I expect you are on the same and that would cause the aches. Wish you all the best xx

I wish I could give you more positive news..Unfortunately the bone pain is a side effect of all of them - I've tried them all and had terrible side effects on everyone.

I'm currently on exemestane and decided a few months ago to give myself a short break from the drugs to help reduce the side effects, but sadly my cancer came back - so please continue to take the drugs. Codeine/cocodamol is not the best painkiller to take as it causes other problems like constipation.

I'm not sure if it does get easier with time - some people are lucky and get very few side effects and others seem to get everything going! I try and manage without painkillers by focussing on activities I like doing and making sure I keep myself busy and also by moving around - it helps most of the time 😊

Hi I’m in the same boat as you but I had to have my ovaries removed my legs knees hips wrists ache I try to walk 4000 steps in the morning and again in the evening seems to help the more I move. The more you stay still the worst it gets. 3/4am is the worst for me having not been moving so I end up getting up and start moving. My GP last week suggested a square of dark chocolate and a handful of almonds I’ve been trying that but to early to know. It is a horrible pain and I wish you some relief xx

Hello, i wonder if Amitriptyline may help you? I take 20mg a night and it's really helped me with post mastectomy/radiotherapy pain plus i get a really good night sleep. Mine, i guess is due to nerve pain, not bone pain, however, my dad also takes it for pain in his knees and is due to have a knee replacement soon as his is now classed as "bone on bone rubbing together" and it helps him, so maybe it would help your bone pain? Hubby also takes it regularly for migraine (we're a family of Amitriptyline fans!! 😀). I hope you get some relief soon, it's horrible being in pain ☹ Hxx

The bone pain is awful, it gnaws away at you, my knees were very badly affected by the Chemo, there’s an option to Co-Codamol in so far as you take it with the Paracetamol & the codeine separately, so you can have a higher dose of codeine, 15mg, 30mg but it needs to be via your GP as they get a bit funny about people getting addicted to Codeine!

I wore Skechers this year & last summer so it was bouncier underfoot to help with the knee pain. I couldn’t walk up or down Stone/Marble Steps it would literally make me cry!

Im sorry to hear some one else is going through exactly same as me every joint in body is so sore im in constant pain been told to take paracetomal.hope your symptoms ease wishing you all the best xxx

Hi there I have the same problem too unfortunately it comes with the treatment. The pain is so bad I could cry once I’ve sat down and have to get back up I feel like an 80/90 year old. In the morning it takes ages for my hands and fingers to work... heho that’s life😊we are alive😘😘😘

Hi, I'm another fan of Amitriptyline. It is an anti-spasmodic and it relaxes your muscles. It also helps with nerve pain and in my case also IBS symptoms! I have also found with respect to the latter, an almost lactose free diet helps greatly. I have suffered awfully with itching - arms, neck and scalp. My symptoms appear to be due to Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab. Since the weather has cooled down that is much improved. Just hoping it stays that way. I have my next CT scan tomorrow, results on 18th September so just keeping everything crossed. I really hope you can get your pain under control. It is so depressing and debilitating when you constantly hurt. All the very best to you, and everyone else going through treatment for the dreaded C. Sue xx
