Hi Ladies I am about to start Fulvestrant/Faslodex two injections every 4 weeks. Would like to hear from anyone who has been on this, how did you tolerate it and what about side effects. Thanks in anticipation.

I'm on my 17th cycle of faslodex and ibrance. I tolerate it very well but it's important to stay well hydrated.

I've had a little hair thinning but I think that's more a side effect of ibrance rather than faslodex. I also suffer from fatigue and have to pace myself. But I work full time and drive a round trip of 80 miles everyday.

Faslodex is given by 2 injections in the rear. There are a few things you can do to make them easier.

It's really important to relax so your muscles aren't tensed.

I also ask if I can put the containers with the fluid under my arms for 10 to fifteen minutes before they are given to get the fluid to body temperature. Some ladies pop them into their bras. The box should be taken out of the fridge at least an hour before your injection. Don't let them inject cold fluid.

When the injection is given I find it easier to stand. Transfer your weight onto the opposite leg to the injection side and relax. Bend the knee on the injection side and make sure you shoulders are down and relaxed. Ask the nurse to do the injection slowly, should take a minimum of 2 minutes a side, the slower the better. Ask her to tell you if you start to tense.

When the fluid is cold, you aren't relaxed or it's given too quickly you can develop firm lumps at the injection sites which take around 2/3 weeks to go. These can be tender, but not painful.

It's not a particularly comfortable procedure but it's not awful, and gets better as you get used to it. It's a very effective drug and for me the injections are well worth it.
