Has anyone had a PET scan for bone lesions? I had a CT and then MRI in preparation for my DEIP flap reconstruction 2 years post mastectomy. They found a "lesion" on my L2 vertebrate. I'm trying not to worry but it's hard not to x

I had this too and it turned out to be completely benign, probably related to some childhood injury. It was a bit of a process as they said it was impossible to take a biopsy because of where it was, so they just had to keep monitoring it. It didn't grow or change so their conclusion was that it was nothing to worry about. The problem with these scans is that they show up everything, then you have something new to alarm you with. Don't worry and remember that secondaries are usually symptomatic. xxx

HI there. like Blueskye says it has probably been there for a long time and has nothing to do with your BC. Scans do show up everything. is this the first scan you have had? I had the Diep flap, no scan before hand though.. good luck with everything and let us know what they plan to do next. xx g

Hi thanks for getting back to me.

No it's not the first scan. Nothing was picked up on my original CT scan post diagnosis which is what is bothering me so it's a new thing. It could well be an anomaly created by treatment etc. I had another CT scan in preparation for the DEIP flap to make sure the blood vessels were up to it! Since then I've had an MRI because this "lesion" was found and now the PET scan!! I told my oncologist I won't need Xmas lights this year just plug me in and up I'll light!

Let's just hope it is nothing xx

probably is.. i worried about every tiny pain and soreness. it's gone away a bit now , the worrying, but i did have 'lumps' that were freaking me out... when i was on chemo, every treatment around the 10th day i would get a kind of allergic reaction, and come out in hives... happened for the last 4 treatments. the last time i got one enormous one like a mosquito bite on my calf, and it took weeks to go down, even with strong antihistamines. it has never completely gone. i have asked every doctor and nurse and my gp about it regularly, and they pass it off as if it's nothing and explain to me why it is nothing to worry about, so i have to trust them. so i know that underlying fear and live with it.. this will most likely be nothing or something unconnected, same as my pet lump!.. so trust your docs and try not to hold your breath.. sounds like they are on top of it no matter what it turns out to be. xxx

One of the biggest challenges of all is how to manage worry and fear when this type of stuff rears its ugly head.......remember that MOST LIKELY it will be nothing sinister, so keep on telling yourself that, over and over again until you really believe it. And if it is a problem...well you can deal with it at the time. Worrying about a future dx only makes you unhappy and if there's one thing BC has taught me is that it makes no difference whatsoever to the outcome. So don't worry, be happy! Best of luck xxx

Hi

Ive had a PET scan following an MRI showing several thoracic spinal lesions which I understand gives a much better image than the MRI.

I think they only do them because of your history so it doesnt mean they are necessarily concerned.

My several lesions are still the same a year later..so think if it wasnt for the history of breast cancer they wouldn't have worried so much about the MRI results , as the CT and bone scan showed no sign of any secondary cancer.

I had mastectomy and chemo 18 years ago..and reconstruction after several years of denial..

Im sure your surgery will go well - and its so much easier to move on with life when you dont have the daily reminder when getting dressed.
