Hi all, I’m 6 weeks 4 days and am suffering horrendous sickness - my doc has prescribed cyclizine, just wondering if anyone has any experience of this, any significant side effects etc? I don’t want to end up feeling worse 😩 thank you x

Cyclizine has made my pregnancy bearable. I started feeling sick at 7 weeks, and this soon escalated to being sick at half-hour to hour intervals. I tried all the usual hone remedies (ginger, acupressure bands etc.) but nothing helped. Called my doctor and they prescribed cyclizine, and from the moment I took the first pill I wasn’t sick anymore. I still felt nauseous (pretty much constantly) but not being sick allowed me to eat and drink and keep them down. The only side effect I’ve experienced is tiredness- it really does wipe me out.
I’m now 27 weeks and still taking it. (I’ve tried to come off it a couple of times but the sickness comes straight back, so I’ve just accepted that there’s a chance I might need to be on it until the birth.) For me the tiredness is easier to deal with than sickness, but that would be personal choice.
If you were to ask me advice of whether you should take it or not, I would say just give it a try. Every person reacts differently to medication so you don’t really know what it will be like for you until you try. You could always take it for a couple of days, see how you feel, and then stop if it makes you worse/does nothing.
There’s also a few different anti-sickness medication options out there. I was lucky that the first one prescribed to me (cyclizine) worked, but that won’t be the case for everyone- you may have to try a few before finding one that works for you.
Good luck- I hope you feel better soon. Xxx
