My friend told me to take plan b if my period is 1 week late. Thus that mean Im pregnant?

Hi there,

Plan B is a type of emergency contraception that is available in America, and needs to be taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. If you live in the UK, there are other types of emergency contraception but again you have to take these within a certain time frame after having sex to prevent pregnancy. The only way to find out if you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test, and if your period is 1 week late you should take a test sooner rather than later. If you are very nervous about taking the test, perhaps you could take the test with a friend or a partner? You could also go to a sexual health / contraceptive clinic or your GPs where they can give you a test and, if you are pregnant, discuss your options with you.

I know finding out if you are pregnant or not can be really scary but I honestly think that taking a test is the best option right now. I agree with Katherine that taking the test with a friend or partner is always a good idea because that way you can talk to them about the results and they can help or comfort if needs be. Hope everything works out ok. x
