Diverticulitis &Severe Pain.

Hi all,Hope you’re all as good as you can be. I have Diverticulitis, now this is the 4th time in about the last 6mths. Now it’s quite new to me so I’m finding it difficult to understand about diet Ect. All I get from my GP is low fibre during a flare up,high fibre when I’m not. Well I have pain on a daily basis, from IBS,but this is a whole new level. On the whole the last 3 times I handled it,but this time, not so good.

I had antibiotics last Friday, but I feel there not touching this pain,I’ve tried best I could to eat properly, but I’m now loosing weight,I’m being told drink plenty of water, but I’ve had a heart attack some time ago,and by drinking more water,my feet and anckles are swelling.

The thing is I’m 80yrs old,and I’m now stressing over this disease,I just don’t know what to do,I’ve been to the loo about 7 times today with diarrhoea and each time the pain gets worse. My hubby has just managed to get me back into see my Gp again, but I can’t see that doing any good only more antibiotics. I’ve had more antibiotics in the last 6mths than I’ve had in the last 12 yrs.

Any suggestions/Help out there from people who suffer the same,I would be really grateful for any advice. Sorry it’s a long post,I could go on more but I won’t bore you😢

so sorry to hear you are dealing with this painful condition.

I was advised by my colorectal doctor to have sigmoid colectomy. Major surgery - but being in constant pain and non stop antibiotics is not a great alternative. My cardiologist also warned that constant inflammation in my body was not great for my heart. I too have had a heart attack . This is certainly a huge decision and as they say getting older is not for the faint hearted ! Do your research and take advice from trusted doctors. I am just one year post op and although it’s not been easy at least the diverticulitis is a thing of the past.

Wishing you all the best.

Rosie
